The best rom-com ever. Period.
A beautiful transfer of simply the best rom com ever filmed. Stanwyck is at the top of her game, perfectly mixing wit, sex, charm, and chicanery. Hank Fonda is the perfect straight man to the comedy. The rest of the cast, made up of Sturges regulars, are superb (my personal alltime favorite being Eric Blore's "Curley" - his delivery of the best line, "Meet me at yonder window embrasure and look as though you know nothing!" is sine qua non. Preston Sturges at the peak of his artistic powers. A must!

A brilliant movie by Preston Sturgis
This brilliant comedy taps into the deep comic vein of each of the cast members- the performances are perfect, and the plot is a marvel. It is hard to imagine that anyone would not enjoy this masterpiece. A delight of great wit! Highly recommended!

Excellent quality, but a stupid commentary
Love the film, and the quality is first rate but the 2011 commentary is a psychological appraisal of the film without any insights on how it was made or the terrific cast of characters. This is the kind of commentarty I do not like and wish Criterion would find some real film historians to speak about the making of such a film.

Superb Preston Sturges Comedy
This 1941 screwball comedy starring Barbara Stanwyck (who practically runs away with the movie in her role as Eve the equally adept daughter of a flim flam card shark) and Henry Fonda who is superb as the unassuming naïve son of a wealthy ale tycoon. The supporting cast ably helps the story line in keeping you smiling at the non-stop antics that occur. The story line should not be spoiled by an elaborate explanation especially since it is somewhat contrived as most comedy stories past and present are in order to create a comedic situation. Still this is a very enjoyable classic comedy that can be viewed many times without becoming boring. Each viewing time you will find new missed things to notice that were missed during the previous viewing. This movie is rare and so is difficult to find in Blu-Ray. For that reason it may be a bit more expensive than similar period or format movies. I found it worth the price and hope that you will also.

Hysterical comedy, directed by Preston Sturges.
Hilarious film with a great cast: Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda, Charles Coburn, Eugene Palette, etc. Story about a hapless rich guy (Fonda) whose taken advantage of by card sharks Stanwyck and Coburn. Many twists and turns provide great situations and laughs.

Love is the best revenge
Sometimes the rouge may be working so well that the only one we are truly convincing is our own hard little heart, be careful out there and keep chasing your passion, cheers
