HDE 7 Port USB Squid Hub

Issues Issues Issues
The power cable is extremely short. My laptop at work only has 3 USB ports, so I bought this for some expansion. When I plug things into it attached to my laptop, they seem to cycle on and off. My portable hard drive would disconnect and reconnect...I would hear usb bops and boops all day. I decided to move it to an outlet and have it just be for chargers. I plugged my phone into it today (first time) and my 2 week old android phone started acting very very weird. When I would type anything it would give me random letters, or it would give me multiples of the letters I asked for. Also, it drained the battery instead of charge it. It went from 20% to 8% before I noticed. I thought my phone was bad, but not so. It is this squid. I now have my phone charging normally at another location directly into a USB port on a computer, no squid at all. I guess I will not just assume that a hub is a hub is a hub any longer.

Wow, Dangerously Defective, Falling Apart in TWO Places on First Use
This is a horribly manufactured product, incredibly bad. Out of the package on first use:1: I went to plug the AC brick's cord into the hub. On the hub end, the tip of the power cord would not go in straight and didn't feel very snug. When I later removed it, the port was loose inside the case.2: After plugging in the AC adapter into one end, and a USB to micro-USB on from the hub, it would not charge a Bluetooth headset. No light or anything. I verified that the headset still charges with my other charger.3: After it failed to charge I unplugged the headphones and then went to unplug the AC brick. Surprise, that was falling apart too! When I pulled on the brick, holding on the main plastic body, it separated at the seam with the plug's prongs still in the outlet. Managed to get it out, and could now see a green circuit board and wires inside. The case appeared to be missing one of it's screws.4: After only being plugged in for 60 seconds or so, the AC brick had become warm and seemed to have a bit of an ozone smell, though to be fair I didn't have a non-defective one to compare the smell or temperature to. Neither smell nor warmth was that bad, just surprising for having been plugged in for such a short time.Although this is exceptionally poor quality, I've actually seen worse; at least it didn't spark up or blow a circuit breaker, though still unsafe with an open seam on the case at 120 volts.Wow.

good not great
I purchased this as an inexpensive usb expansion for my raspberry pi (B). it allows me to reduce power consumption on my pi. This of course allows the processor to run without interuption. I use my pi for as a XBMC so I need all the juice I can get. That being said, the device is cheap... you get what you pay for. It is very cheaply built. The power cable is 3 feet long... which makes it pretty useless. All in all, buy a different product. Spend the extra 20 dollars and buy something worthwhile.

Awesome USB hub!
Bought this primarily for use with a Nintendo Wii console system. Hookup was fast and painless and it worked flawlessly. The pigtail system is really a nice feature too. Makes it very easy to spread out all the controllers, etc. The added AC adapter is a must for bogging down the USB port with several devices. Unit was tested briefly on both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 computer ports and it works equally well for laptop and desktop PC's.For the price, plug-n-play feature and 7 USB ports, it's hard to go wrong with this unit. Recommended for people needing more than the standard 4 ports available on most other hubs and the extra power. The pigtail offers the greatest flexibility in device/cord positioning.

powered hub
Great hub I go to meetings and employees can all plug in flash drives so if they get bored or fall asleep they all get the upload!I need to buy more, great for laptop my external mouse, my Bluetooth, and wireless, and all things usb, hard drives, card readers, just leave them plugged in and unplug from laptop while not in use! You do not have to run 5 volt 1000 millivolt power. Unless your device needs it! Great buy has power adapter 5 volt 1000 millivolt power. Have fun and enjoy life.Copptronics

nice item
I ordered this item to help me get better use from my laptops usb connections but apperently i miss somthing because when i got it and put it on my laptop for some reason it did not allow me to get the full use of all the connection, but i don't think it is the item that did not work because it did allow me the use of some ot the connection so it could just be my computer so just make sure your computer will allow you to use this product. But over all it is a very nice product and a great idea.

Does not work with my Windows 7
My wife purchased this for use with her Windows Vista Dell laptop. We wanted to use it on a desk we share sorta as a docking station solution. We have a printer, Wireless mouse, wireless keyboard and external hard drive hooked to it. The printer only works half of the time using this hub. The other items work fine when using her machine. When I switch it with my Windows 7 Samsung laptop, none of the items are recognized. I have to unplug all of them and plug them into my laptop individually. We have scrapped this product and purchased a D-Link hub that works fine. I thought we were getting a deal, however it did not work out for us.

Inconsistent Connection
I got this to connect, among other things, a Buffalo external USB Hard drive. When mounted via this hub the drive would occasionally disconnect (from a few hours to a day), a behavior I never saw when directly connected or connected via a different usb hub. I tried both in BUS-powered and self-powered modes with same results. Had to return this as it was not useful given it was not reliable for external HDD.
