Better than LED and incandescent blacklight bulbs
I bought a 60w incandescent bulb from GE for $5 and it was the least brightest and also got so hot. I also got a 7w LED bulb from GE for $11 and it was not very bright either, but did stay cool. The 20w CFL worked the best and was $9 and was only slightly warm. I would definitely order the Amazon sunlite brand CFL bulbs again.

My Three Bulb Roundup
So let's review: a blacklight bulb isn't supposed to illuminate the room or provide ambient lighting. The light from an ideal blacklight would actually be invisible, putting out only ultraviolet frequencies the human eye can't see. Certain colors and materials fluoresce under UV light, though, making a blacklight both useful and fun.To compare, I bought 3 bulbs: Light ItUP Blacklight Blue LED UV Light Bulb Sunlite LED UV 2W A19 Blacklight Blue Bulb with E26 Medium Base Sunlite 20 Watt Spiral Energy Saving CFL Light Bulb Medium Base Blacklight Blue Both LED bulbs are the same size as the standard light bulb and only get a bit warm. The CFL bulb from Sunlite is larger than a standard bulb and gets hot to the touch, so it may not be appropriate for a tight fixture. The fluorescent response from each bulb was about the same. They were very different, however, in their amounts of visible light. Sunlite's LED offering was the cleanest, putting out just enough deep blue-ish ambiance to read by. (Reading by the light of a UV bulb is definitely not recommended!) Sunlite's CFL bulb also did well and was just slightly brighter. Light ItUp's bulb was poor in comparison, emitting a lot of light of a strange and unappealing light blue hue. A "blacklight blue" bulb is supposed to filter out the visible frequencies and shine just the UV and this bulb was dramatically worse for that.Overall, for a "party bulb" I'd recommend Sunlite's CFL version. For the purest UV response, go with Sunlite's LED bulb.

Don’t bother with anything cheaper!
Excellent UV blacklight bulbs. We were having an Outer Space themed glow party in our basement and I originally tried the $3 black light bulbs from a big box store only to find they hardly put out any light and almost nothing glowed. I returned them all and ordered one of these compact fluorescent black light bulbs and was blown away by the difference. I ended up ordering 6 or 7 of them all together and the basement looked AMAZING! I got black plastic tablecloths at the dollar store and painted little dots all over with Glow Paint. We hung about 6 of those around the room and with these bulbs it made those “stars” glow so good it felt like space. Used UV reactive tape to make “asteroids” on the floor and hung led glow balloons for planets, moons, stars, etc. The kids were SO excited when we revealed the room to them and the parents I think were impressed too. I would definitely recommend these bulbs to anyone looking. They fit a standard light socket perfectly, put off great light, and make everything glow!

Best CFL blacklight (2015)
These are the best cfl style blacklights currently available. I've tested blacklight CFLs from sunlite, Feit, Sleeklighting and Slice of the moon. The tested bulbs range from 13w thru 25w. These are the most effective of them all. I don't like to say bright because a blacklight that looks bright isn't a good blacklight. A good blacklight makes mostly invisible light with little to no visible light. Unlike high quality tube fluorescents and Mercury HID blacklights of the tested CFLs emit a good deal of visible light. However these are better than the other three tested in that they emit far more UV than visible light. They excite UV reactive objects better better than the other 3 as well. Out of 10 of these SL20bulbs that I used for a month, only one failed. Only the Feit matched the reliability. Though the Feit is not as effective as a blacklight. The Sleeklighting bulbs are much more fragile with a thinner tube. I tested two of those. One broke while screwing it in. The other failed within about 3 weeks. I tested 2 Slice of the moon bulbs. One failed in a ball of fire as soon as I first turned it on. The other failed in 10 days. It's the most expensive, and largest bulb. It emits a lot of visible light and very little blacklightThe only negative about these Sunlite bulbs is that their plastic base is larger than typical CFLs. This limits your options on which fixtures in which it can be used.

A tad dull, but your best value for real black lights
Purchased many bulbs and tried the LED flood lights on Amazon too, none of them were the correct wavelength (even though they advertise that they are) - these are proper, genuine black light blue bulbs. If you want neon colours to pop, these are what you want. I put 8 in my game room, as individually they are not that bright. 1 bulb is probably good for 6-8 sq feet below it, the black light effect weakens significantly with distance. After much research, these are your best bet for a budget black light setup. I'll be purchasing more for future projects.

Amazebulbs. Highly Recommend.
I purchased 3 of these bulbs at $12/piece which is an amazing deal when comparison shopping. I've setup a basement RC Car track for my son's upcoming birthday party and thought it would add a really cool element of fun to be able to race in the dark. In the picture I've attached, I'm only using two of the bulbs, one at each end of the room, and it's more than enough to get everything glowing, with just enough ambient light to keep things safe. The picture is a little dark and doesn't offer a perfect representation of the brightness of the bulbs, but it gives a fairly good idea. The greens are extremely bright, the pinks and whites are also well lit, especially considering that I'm using hockey tape. Clothing and box labels that better reflect the UV glow extremely bright, much like the green tape. There is also some glow-in-the-dark gel on the wall which after a while with the UV lights on, glows very brightly.I would highly recommend these bulbs. They work exactly as they should, are well made, use little energy, and are an excellent price.

Works every time, sixty-six percent of the time.
I liked the two bulbs that worked right off the bat. The third bulb was impressive when it lit up three days later (I was too lazy to remove it) much like I believe Jesus did. But it had already made a poor impression for those first 48 hours.

Bulb integretity misses target
Bulbs are supposed to last 8000 hrs or more. I bought 2 sets and have returned 1 set. ( 3 bulbs) Bulbs were tested and they are dim. Theres a cracking noise as if the gas is leaking out. The first set all have burnt out having less than 135 hrs of use. I am testing a replacement set and the bulbs are not bright at all. Its says 20 watts. But tested with my light meter are giving enough light as a 7 watt bulb. I hear hissing noises on the new replacements and fear that they will fade and die as well. Each set or 3 bulb pkg is supposed to last 24,000 hrs. I seriously doubt those targets

Excelente
