Chai with Malachi (Coffee Cup Bible Studies)

This study experience is enhanced by Sandra Glahn's perceptive inquiries and contextual background. In addition, she poses pertinent, introspective questions that encourage students to consider how God's holiness affects their own lives. This examination of Malachi is meant to remind readers of God's unending love for and pursuit of a relationship with His chosen people. The book also includes a section with useful suggestions for highlighting God's hope, peace, love, and joy. Sandra Glahn is an experienced professor who places a high importance on the inerrancy of Scripture and works hard to help her students grow in their understanding of it.

Sandra Glahn is a Biblically-sound teacher who believes in the inerrancy of Scripture and seeks to help the student (who wants to make the effort to go deeper into God's Word) with excellent questions and very interesting historical background information. She also provides questions that become "up close & personal", again helping the student look at the character of God as still very pertinent today, especially in their daily lives. This study on Malichai really helped remind us of God's love for us and His great desire for His people to return to Him. In the back of the book, Dr Glahn had a special section that could be used for the Advent season with very practical suggestions on how to change the emphasis on Christmas from over-the-top commercialism to one that focuses on God's hope, peace, love and joy for us. We used it & loved how it really changed our perspective - and actions - during this Christmas season.

I have done this study twice now and love it. It gives great insight to what Israel was going through and their behavior. I wouldn't put too much credence into the negative reviews based on Glahn's usage of NET Bible and other texts she includes. She explains why she uses NET; so that the study can include Bible text and be used without carrying a Bible. Just use your choice of translation if you'd like a more accurate translation. She also explains why she brings in passages from history of that time which aren't included in the Bible. She doesn't try to equate them to Biblical text. Malachi has become a favorite book of the Bible due to this study.

I've enjoyed all the Coffee Cup studies.

This study uses the NET bible which is not a theologically correct version. Secondly, the author has an agenda and it becomes very clear as the study developes. She uses Scripture out of context to make some of her points...ommitting the Scripture that would refute her personal stand. She tries to water down God's Word by saying God doesn't mean what He says and then tries to tell us what God does mean. In chapter 4 she says, "that while the Bible contains sufficient truth, it does not contain exhaustive truth." I would highly discouraging anyone from using this study.
