The Hunt Continues
Well, the Pumps Away Genius Automatic 350 GPH Submersible Swimming Pool Winter Cover Pump Auto On/off from Amazon worked great. It was quiet and dependable and moved an impressive amount of water. I was impressed. But then one day I made the mistake of moving the pump, by the hose I had fastened to it (it was not a cold day and there was no ice), to adjust the pump position a little and the stem of the male hose attachment (which it an intergral part of the pump housing) broke off like a piece of ribbon candy! It did not take much to break it either. End of story. The hunt continues.

If I stick my hand in the sump and shake it violently it starts pumping nicely. If if does start by itself it usually ...
I use this pump to move water out of a small courtyard. Most of the time I believe an air bubble prevents the float from activating the start switch. If I stick my hand in the sump and shake it violently it starts pumping nicely. If if does start by itself it usually runs until I unplug it. I'm surprised it hasn't burned up. I don't know if the expensive ones are better, but this one is not very good. I give it 2 stars because it pumps well when it does pump.

Will pump air, but not water.
I received this and plug it in. The pump turned on right away before I even put it in the water. As soon as I put it in the water it turned off. When I took it out of the water it turned on. No instruction booklet or extra filter came with the pump so I have no idea what the problem could be.

Works really well.
Why so many bad reviews?? I dont know. I have use this pump for 2 season now on my grandson’s 16ft x 4ft above ground pool and it works really well. No, if the temp is going to drop to freezing, I bring it in. (Common sense) You do need to rinse the filter a few times during the fall especially if you have a lot of leaves fall on cover but other than that it does the job, so well that I am now searching for replacement filters or maybe have to make my own. Definitely worth the $40 I spent on it.

Did not last a full Winter
Did not last a full Winter. I was careful to always remove and drain it before any freeze. It just quit pumping in April, too early to open the pool in Tennessee. Now I need to rush to the big box store to buy another pump before I start breeding mosquitoes.

This small little pump does the job well.
I have been using a large sump pump to pump water off my pool cover for years but when it gave out finally I had to replace it. After ordering and receiving this new pump which, by the way, was way smaller in size than I imagined. I did start having my doubts about it. I have now had it in use for a few weeks and found it does a great job and it doesn't clog up like my old larger sump pump. The pump and filter they use seems to still suck the water out even though it was buried in leaves. After it rains, the pump did automatically come on and off as it states if positioned properly and upright. I am impressed what it does for its size and that it works automatically and thats a bonus I didn't have before. I'll probably remove it soon as it is has been freezing lately and I don't want it stuck in the ice all winter. I didn't want to do that torture test yet lol. So far so good!

Worked for less than a month - now only works if I turn it upside down
This was a real disappointment. When I first put it out, it seemed to work great - turned on the instant water got above about 2 inches. But soon it stopped getting triggered by water - I had to shake it and put it down again to start it. Now it doesn't turn on at all unless I turn it upside down, and then only stays on for a second. It is a useless pump - just a waste of money.

Needs a better float switch
Float sticks alot preventing the pump from coming on. No complaints other that. At least it shuts off automatically every time. I use PVC pipe instead of a hose so I just tapped the pipe and it comes on. Still shouldn't have to do that for a pump that's automatic
