Stainless Steel Garlic Peeler by Naked Garlic (Stainless)

Eh .. just another device for bruising garlic as you peel it, The trick here is how much 'brusing' is it going to do to the cloves to get the garlic paper off? Bruising is just a step below the effect from crushing it. I did a fair amount of research on garlic a few years ago ..Garlic / allicin (even just peeled not cut) begins to change flavour immediately. if garlic is crushed, the good flavors will quickly be converted into the bitter sulfur compound Diallyl disulfide (DADS or 4,5-dithia-1,7-octadiene) before they reach the taste buds. which is an allergen. People who say they can't stand garlic? are in fact reacting to this allergen. If you're not serving people who have this allergic reaction, then I guess it's fine. otherwise? peel it by hand, I've not found a better way yet.

You have to shake very vigorously, and you can't put too many cloves in at once. Plus, the cloves get pitted and sticky because of the plastic points in the top. I find it easier from The Chew's suggestion to take two stainless steel bowls of the same approximate size, put the garlic in one of the bowls, cover with the other bowl and shake vigorously. The skins peel off nicely and no pitted cloves. They are nice and smooth. If this product didn't have the plastic points in the top, I think it would work perfectly. The entire top should be stainless steel as well.

I bought the Naked Garlic Peeler because, well, I love garlic and I though it was pretty and would look good on the my counter. Complete surprise as to how fantastic it worked! The best part is that it's fast, easy and you throw the whole thing in the dishwasher. I am thrilled and will be buying these as Christmas gifts this year!

It doesnt peel in all the way like other techniques but it still saves time.

Great product. It really works with just a few hard shakes. It saves me a lot of time in the kitchen trying to peel all the garlic that I love to cook with. Two thumbs up. Everyone should have one!

I'm sorry but this is a joke. There are many makeshift ways to bruise garlic cloves as you remove the skin and $25 for a garlic clove container is crazy.

I peel with this and then put it in a food processor, my "slap chop", or cut it by hand. Works great and highly recommend!
