Very British fun
The books of Tom Holt are a cross between science fiction, fantasy, satire and absurdity, He fits into a typical English tradition that includes Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and and Jasper Fforde. If you like one of these writers, it is very likely you will like Tom Holt too. If you don't, better don't start with a book of Tom Holt. For the rest: we all know that octopuses are very clever and a dog is a man's best friend. Better keep that in mind, next time you order octopus salad or kick the dog. Before you know, they come and get you.

A writer worth reading
For anyone not familiar with the work of Tom Holt his tongue-in-cheek look at situations and his witty, clever style make for an excellent read. If you have never read him, Blonde Bombshell is a good place to start but expect to have to shell out dollars for his back catalogue because you will want more. This book ticks along very nicely and as the plot progresses you find yourself realising that earlier passages were whopping great clues as to where it is going. Its a good book, quite thick and full of words, try it.

Wonderful
Some tropes are easy to see coming, but the book is excellent for sure. It even includes a disappearing Australian!

Exceeded expectations
Very good book. This book was enjoyable and I quickly read it as it was hard to put down. I wasn't sure from the other reviews whether I would like it but it exceeded my expectations. I thought the plot was interesting and there were some funny bits. I'm glad I took a chance with this book.

Much in the style of Hitchhiker's Guide
I was looking for a book as a gift for a friend. The friend had read the Hitchhiker's Guide series and enjoyed it, and wanted other Sci Fi in the same vein. After consultation with my local librarian (yay for libraries!), I tried reading Blonde Bombshell, by Tom Holt, to see if the book would fit those high standards. Much to my (pleasant) surprise, this book really succeeded. The humor is there, the quirky sensibility, the wry vision of alien tech, and a few twists and turns. A fun read! So I've now bought this copy for my friend. Shhhh!! I haven't given it to my friend yet.

WONDERFULLY ORIGINAL
FUNNY lol :-)Everything about this story is imaginative, twisty, and fantastic. A bomb who walks around in human form? AWESOME. Planet of dogs? HILARIOUS. Tension, characters, plot, idea . . . EVERYTHING is WONDERFULLY ORIGINAL!!!!!!

Check it out
One of the better comedy/fantasy/sci-fi books I've read in a while. If you like Douglas Adams I would suggest you give this a try.I discovered Tom Holt about a year ago, and have read several of his novels. They rarely disappoint if you're looking for a light, funny read.

Reminiscent of Douglas Adams.
A silly romp in an fantastical universe reminiscent of Douglas Adams. The science in the sci-fi doesn't always quite add up, but sometimes comedy is more important than physics.

Amusing, but falls in to lazy sci-fi traps
It's 2017, and a distant planet populated by dogs has sent a superweapon to destroy earth - as the incredibly loud music emanating from our millions of televisions, radios and iPods is offending their sensitive canine ears and making life unbearable. The resulting novel is a strange mixture of some excellent jokes about dogs and octopuses, plus some second-rate jokes about computers and science fiction. It's the bad sci-fi that really ruins it for me, there are too many points where I was left thinking 'if you knew what that word meant, the joke would seem stupid rather than amusing'. The computer jokes are often lazy and seem forced; naming an operating system with a keyboard-mash of 'X's and 'P's makes for a jarring distraction rather than a subtle reference. However, the pacy plot and clever writing make the book very readable, and there is the usual glut of brilliant Holt one-liners. Worth a try.

Tom Holt at his best
This book is definitely one of Tom Holt's best sci fi fantasies. He is funny and also makes you think - I have been giving my own dog some heavy looks since reading this book. I much prefer this kind of Tom Holt than when he is in his fantasy persona giving us updates on mythology. He is lucid, funny and Blonde Bombshell thought provoking. More in this genre please. Another Holt winner!
I love Tom Holt books, although I do find some over-complicated. The Blonde Bombshell is not one of these, being funny, clever, with of course a touch (well, bombshell really) of the unexpected. His characters are likeable and three dimensional, or possibly four dimensional! I couldn't put it down, and would love it to be a series like the immensely enjoyable Portable Door books.

Tom Holt at his usual level!
Tom Holt has moved away from his traditional subject matter and turned his hand to sci-fi. It may be his maiden voyage but he has done a cracking job; this book is most definately up to his usual standard. A couple of Tom Holt's books have perplexed me (for a short time!) but this one didn't.

Different to his other books!
Just as funny as his earlier books but different. I had not expected his move into a story based largely on computer technology but, as normal, well written and a good read. I love the role swap images - I won't elaborate as that might spoil your enjoyment!
