Bargello Quilts

As a beginning quilter who spent 60 years oil painting and watercolor painting, i need an instruction book that does not gloss over details but yet gives me th basic knowledge to design the way i would paint. and i am thrilled with this book. she neither skips basic steps nor belabors any point. this is not one of those esoteric books that show off the author's skills at the expense of really telling you the nitty gritty of what you need to know. under " basic tools" she lists stitch ripper because, well, bad seams happen to all of us. i like that she matter of factly includes that. this is probably not a good book for people who want regimented patterns, but if , like me, you've never colored inside the lines in your life, you'll love this book.

Expected full sized quilt patterns. Mostly small projects. Gives good instructions for projects but I have no use for table runners, wall hangings, crib quilts, placemats, lap quilts. I was disappointed. When I buy a book titled Bargello Quilts, I expect it to have full sized quilt patterns or at least more than one or two. Burned again. Not buying any more quilt books unless it states on the cover how many bed sized quilt patterns it includes!

This book explains the principles of making bargello quilts. I recently borrowed four bargello books from friends and bought another one myself, and this is definitely the best one for someone who may or may not be experienced with quilting, but for whom bargello is a new technique. It explains all the principles, so that, especially once you make one of the simpler ones, you will be able to visualize what is going on, as well as how you might make changes to make the quilt uniquely your own. There are patterns for several of the quilts, but I always like to know the reasoning behind everything; that way, I can always remember how to do something. This book satisfies both the wants of the person like me, and also of the person who just wants the patterns.

Marge Edie's "Bargello Quilts" is a great book for those wishing to experiment with the technique of bargello quilting. Clear, concise instructions in the basics, plus a number of innovative methods of combining and re-organizing the design strips, make bargello quilting accessible to anyone. If there are any complaints at all, it is the idea of the necessity of turning the strip sets into tubes only to have to de-construct them later. There are other books out there that have moved beyond this idea. But for beginning technique, I consider this book a must-have.

Book arrived in perfect condition - better than advertised. I had a copy, but lost it or loaned it to someone and forgot who; this is a perfect replacement.

Have a pattern for a bargello quilt and bought this book thinking I would get more insight then the pattern. Maybe the pattern was very well written but I basically got no more infor from the book then I did the pattern. But there are different ones in the book, and you do get all the instructions so the choice is actually a book with more patterns and instructions or just one pattern.

I received this quilt book and I love the bargello quilts. I read through it and so far I have not attempted to make one. They are beautiful but are a bit overwhelming for this quilter. I have to give the book high marks though and someday I will attempt to make one of these.

An interesting book that I know I shall be able to create some interesting designs once I have plenty of time. It is interesting to see how the designs evolve as you may start with one idea and end up by chance doing something completely different. A book well worth having in your library.

Veery clear instructions and inspirational pictures.I have recently done a Bargello hanging and wanted a book to take me further this book will do just that.
