Not your average bad guy
What a delightful book! The main characters are so likeable , despite their flaws and massive differences. Can’t wait to see what comes next

“I think that a lot of things we believe are legends have a foundation in truth.”
This world is one crazy ride! Ali and Marroc are forced together and into an adventure filled with mythical beasts, curses, and the undead. Not to mention the hidden agenda within Marroc’s actions that Ali is not yet aware. This is a fast paced, perfectly progressed story that kept me entertained from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to continue. Because the story moved quickly, one could argue that there wasn’t much depth to world or character building, but I enjoyed the level of depth as it wasn’t too heavy and didn’t bog down the plot. You learned more about Marroc as the story progressed and I far preferred that to having layers of his character shoved down my throat at the expense of the plot. This is definitely a watered down version of the “epic fantasy” trope, and if someone is expecting the same level of detail and layering in the story, look elsewhere. I did appreciate that the secrets Marroc kept were not fully hidden from the reader even as they were secret from Ali. The dual POV was a great way to add intrigue to the story as the reader got to see within Marroc’s secretive mind and experience the revelation through Ali’s POV. Let’s see where book two takes Ali and Marroc!

Mixed feelings
I’ve read two other series by Crawford and absolutely LOVED them, but this one so far seems to fall short. I’m going to continue to the second book, bc I love the authors and have high hopes.Pros:-magic-elves-world building-Nordic mythology-sexyCons:-the story seems like a WIP rather than a finished product-very shallow character building - I don’t feel like I KNOW them enough to care for them/their struggles-draugr??? This confuses me but perhaps I’m missing something

Just as good the second time
I just finished this book for the second time. I re-read it because the next book in the series is coming out soon. It was a s just as good the second time! I fell in love (again) with Marroc/Galin. I definitely hope to learn more about him in the sequel, as we only really started to know his history at the end of the book.I also liked that this wasn't you typical "fae" story. It incorporated elements of Norse mythology, which is very interesting. I did have a couple of moments in my first reading of this book of WTH is going on, but that was because I was trying to wrap my head around the spin of adding the Norse mythology elements. It didn't take me long to sink in to the story once I got around that. It just seemed to fit together and I was completely along for the ride. Ali was also a great character, a thinker, not just a doer. She was likable and strong, believing in herself and her ability. I never got irritated with any of the characters, which does happen to me when I feel characters are too wishy washy in their decision making.I'm excited for the next book in the series.

A new world to dive into!
I really enjoyed this book and devoured it. I can't wait to see what is to come for Ali in the next book. There were lots of things in this book that I hope come to light in the next, like his mate!!! Marroc is cursed and literally drips shadows from his body. He's dark, broody, and yet he's a villain I wanted more of.Ali is dead set that she has to save the night elves and there's only one way to do so.. find Galin and kill him. Along the way she comes to learn that things aren't as simple as that and there is so much more to the stories she's been told. However, she is still dead set on she will be the north star and free her people from the caverns that they were sentenced to live in over one thousand years ago by high elves.

Good
This story didn't keep my interest the way other books by same author. I hate that it is not finished in one book that I have to read another book to get the ending

Great book
I love CN Crawford’s books - the world building, story and characters are always amazing. I enjoy becoming immersed in this world, and love how she writes her heroes and heroines. Dark, brooding and deep while their counterparts and strong, sassy and driven. I enjoyed seeing Galvin grow, understand the relationship between the Elves and learning what really happened. Ali is fantastic and I am excited to see how this series continues!

So glad that I picked this book.
It was very intriguing, I wasn't expecting the ending it had. Glad I opted for the extra chapter for a bit of prequel as to how Marroc got his curse. I'm looking forward to seeing if Ali and Marroc (Galin, now) pursue their feelings for each other.Onto book two!

a solid read
I had my doubts, but this one kept me intrigued and interested. The twists and turns were great, if not predictable. I am going straight for the next book in the series! The characters are a little bland in the beginning but they grow on you as the book progresses.

Interesting story concept
Ali, dark Elf assassin, meets a mysterious escaped and cursed prisoner. They venture through worlds of myth, encountering legendary creatures and narrowly escaping harrowing events with their lives intact.Midgard/Earth, and all the worlds, are set in post-Ragnarok times. Present day is estimated to be about a millenia in the past for the story. Night elves were banished by a high elf sorcerer to the Shadow Caverns, deep underground. Some plot gaps and unanswered questions remain, but not convinced the author will revisit some: Such as how Ali was able to leave the caverns with her brother if all dark elves were banished there. Did I miss something here?Ali and Marroc don't really have chemistry for me. Not sure I felt much emotion from them. I feel like we just scratched the surface with the characters. Not a whole lot of secondary characters either.

Enjoyable Read
I liked the story of the “Cursed Prince”, a binding curse for a thousand years and the lifting magic of love to freedom.
