This is one of our memory favorites.
I cherish this book for a couple of reasons. Have you ever had to pay attention when someone was reading to you so you could duck out of the way because every time when the SPot name came out from gramps, so did some spitting? We three boys became really adept at knowing when the right time to get ready to duck was about to come along. Another thing, in this book there is a horse called Ebanezer. Well, I think I was half way through highschool before any of the three of us found out that his name was not pronounced Aim-Nan-Sir. So much for German translation. No wonder I still speak what little German I remember with a lisp. Gramps read to us with his store teeth in the bib pocket of his overalls. Anyway this is a great book--even if you can't provide all of the special effects that Tony and Ozzie and I enjoyed and remembered so much for so long--for your little ones.

Great Read and Fun ...6 yr old loves reading it!
Arthur Scott Bailey has created a collection of chapter books about the lives of many different animals that live in Pleasant Valley and by "Farmer Green's" Farm. The animals talk and there is a lot of humor in there. The story is written from their point of view which makes it delightful. Our 6-1/2 yr old is reading these with home schooling and the first book she read was "The Tale of Jolly Robin" When she started this one and hear mention of an animal that was in Jolly Robin she made the connection that they were at the same place. Some of the terms are old fashion, such as the animals use the word "Queer" so she is learning the original meaning of "Odd" There also may be some words that our English language no longer uses which causes us to look up the meaning and extend learning her vocabulary. We all are excited about reading more of these books.

Eva's review of " The Tale of Old Dog Spot"
I liked the funny stuff that old dog Spot did, but I didn't like that miss Kitty Cat was mean to him. Old dog Spot was a mischievous dog.

Pre-read this for my son and it's a perfect pairing for my son
Pre-read this for my son and it's a perfect pairing for my son. Johnny and Old Dog Spot are very similar to my son and his dog Gracie. Love the innocents in this book. Not only is it a great story but has lessons hidden within from how to treat and care for your animals, how to treat others, etc.

Entertaining For Kids and Adults
I would recommend all of the title by Arthur Scott Bailey. I have been reading them at bedtime for my 6 and 4 year olds -the 6 year old enjoys them more, but they are really well written and include information on the animal as part of the story. We've read about 8 or so of the tuck me in tales and love them.
