A picture book of Ferraris
I was disappointed with this book when I received it.I find car books fall into three categories:1) Great photographs, few words (or poor quality words)2) Many words, poor quality pictures - The Brooklands books often suffer from having too many B&W photos3) A good balance between the two. This book is in category 1. Reading it won't take very long at all and what it says is bland and uninformative. As an example, here is what it says about the 365 GTB/4 better known as the Daytona."Officially this car was the 365 GTb/4 and merely an updated version of the previous 275GTB/4. But Ferrari fans quickly dubbed it the Daytona after Maranello's cars filled all three podium places at the 1967 Daytona 24-hour race. The Daytona came to be recognized as the greatest GT car on the market, and at 175 mph the fastest thanks to a V12 engine enlarged from 3.3 to 4.4 liters."That's it.What about the photos? Many of them are excellent. However there are 23 double page spreads. While this enlarges the detail of the car, because you can't get it flat, it spoils the overall lines of the cars. Sadly it's a case of more being less and that's a shame.I am particularly interested in the Ferraris of the late fifties to late seventies and I had hopes that I'd learn a lot from this book. It didn't happen and I feel that I have to give the book a poor rating of just 2 stars.
