DA VINCI 16 Inch Deluxe Inlaid Wood Chess Set with Pieces

Nice quality chess board and pieces. Reasonably priced, highly recommend. Now if I could only find someone to play with.

I bought this set to get back into chess after 30 years. For the price, it's probably a good value. The pieces are fairly well made, though rather light. The workmanship on the board leaves much to be desired. The board is uneven and wobble, something that can be fixed by sanding the feet, though one wonders why that wasn't done in production. The wood is lacquered rather sloppily, but then, I'm a woodworker, and will probably make my own board next time. What would I get instead? I'd recommend getting a regulation vinyl mat board and nice heavy plastic pieces. It's easier to tote around and better for play. And a lot cheaper. If you want a wooden set that looks nice sitting out on a table, you'll have to spend a lot more money.

As some of the other reviewers stated, the pieces are fairly light. But seeing as I don't play chess in hurricane weather, I am okay with that. I don't think there is a better wooden chess set out there for the price. Some reviewers mentioned that they did not get all their pieces, so that was the first thing I checked. I got all mine and they were all in good shape.

The image is not exactly what I received, the dark chess pieces much lighter in color than shown. Also the box showed elastic loops under the board to hold the chess pieces but they were missing. Overall not bad, its a decent size board and you can still play the game of chess!

The set is okay, I noticed 4 spots of dried plastic glue over the board, and one small glob on the edge ( unable to remove any of it)So it seems the workers in the workshop where they make these were a little sloppy with their work. (not really too noticeable)The pieces are light weight.I'll use it to teach my gf how to play, but I plan to spend a more for a set I can show off or put on for display, because this one won't do.

Overall, this set is very poorly built. I'm sorry I bought it. I wanted to make my own set and realize now I should have. The set is very lightweight, the board wobbles, the pieces fall over. Take a pass on this set is my advice!

All pieces present, No elastic underneath to hold pieces for storage as pictured on the very nice retail box (suitable for gift-wrapping). May not compare to a $100 set, but the quality surprised me. The pieces are "OK", un-weighted, but felted bottoms. I may drill each and insert lead pellets if it bothers me. Board was smooth and well-finished. The construction overall may be likened to a more costly set, but the woods are less select.One can easily give it a 5-star rating for the price and value.

Got this for my Grand daughter and she loved it, uses it almost every day.
