Just like most 90s babies, i used to see these Everytime my family went to the store. And now that I have my own kids, this seemed like a perfect present for my science obsessed son.Well, he LOVES it. It has an option to use batteries or a cord. He likes to just turn it on and have it near him. Needless to say it was a win!! However, it is a lot smaller than I thought. Maybe the size of....a coffee pot in height and the glass globe is about as big as a baseball. Kind of happy about that though.I am VERY pleased. As well as my son.

Center post/element a little off center, and the one ¨lightening strike¨ is going down into the base, which is not a big deal (picture attached... btw, the picture does not do the lamp justice... it looks really good and is very visible by day and night). One review said it comes with batteries... I did not see any (plan to use usb mostly anyway). I wonder if the other review that said it was a fire hazard had it hooked to a 2A port? It says it takes 300mA, but I have had it hooked to a car starter battery, with a 1A output, and it has not heated up (I let it run for a couple hours straight)... Good product for the price; if it had not had a coupon, I would have bought a different $10 globe, as I think most are pretty identical... The Chinese to English translation is entertaining too!

This doesn't come with wall plug. So u will need to buy adapter to plug into wall. It is very small and USB for computers or u can buy adapter to plug in wall. I bought for my 9 year old son and he loved it. He did end up swapping his withe his grandmother for her larger one we had bought her for christmas thru walmart. We did notice that if ur touching the ball and u touch someone else it does shock alittle. But so does the one we got from walmart. So don't touch anyone while touching the plasma ball. Other than that it's cute and doesn't take up alot of space.

I was expecting the small size but was surprised with the color. I thought it would be the traditional plasma ball like the picture on the box, but this one is oddly rainbow hued. Very cute, perfect stocking stuffer for child. This is battery operated so the electricity band does not extend up to the top of the orb (does not generate enough power).

Great little gadget for a fine price. It's small, reasonably bright, and responsive. The USB power input is convenient as it can run right off of a phone wall adapter. Took one star back for an off-centered internal pillar. Doesn't seem to affect it's operation but does detract a bit from the appearance when turned off.

Have only been playing with it for a day but it seems prettier than I had thought it would be. Had an AC version from ten years ago that broke (glass), ran across this USB powered version on Amazon, also takes three AAA batteries in the base that I didn't try. Works exactly the same as the old one, was surprised because this is a little 5 volt gadget. I'd like there to be more weight to it although with batteries it might be, glass seems thin. Will try to remember to update review when or if it stops working.

Returning this item. Unfortunately both globes we bought have an issue where they will only stay active for about 10-60 seconds then they shut off, this happens faster if you are touching itUPDATE: We decided to check how these work with the batteries before we returned them and decided to keep them since they seem to work fine with the batteries. Not sure why the electric cord doesn't work right. It's really neat when it works.

I hesitated buying these because of all the bad reviews. This is not a toy for young kids to play with, they are fragile and if they get dropped I am sure they will get damaged internally enough to make them quit working such as a light bulb. I bought 4 for gifts and two for myself, all working great! These also do not cause any radio interference nor make any buzzing noises in my ham radio station.
