Medium Stainless Steel Wool, 1lb Roll

I recently acquired and rehabilitated a 65 yr old ranch built on cement slab to be used as rental. There was obviously serious previous rodent infestation. Exterminator estimate $1500-2000. I elected to do the same steps the exterminator planned This product is the same material that company would use. I used 2 one pound rolls of this product and a similar roll from another vendor. I purchased a good pair of tin snips and heavy leather gloves with thick lining. I cut each roll into 2 long strips about 2 inches wide. I laid a couple beads of silicone calking to about 3 ft of the strip and stuffed it upward between the vinyl siding and the cement foundation with a 3" putty knife. I went around the entire perimeter of the house. Since I had removed all interior baseboards I stuffed and calked the space under drywall and between concrete slab. I sprayed for insects. I stuffed the steel wool around all of the vents and utility pipes. I screened the exhaust vent on the roof. I also stuffed crack between foundation and front steps. I stuffed the crack between cement patio and the foundation. The total cost was about $200. It is December and no critters. The real test will come when tenants move in and there is food in the house. I am confident that this material will keep rodents out as it would not be pleasant to chew on. It will inflict serious cuts to your hands if they are not protected.

My clay tile roof was built with the corners not blocked off. I stuffed this stuff under the clay tiles so the squirrels cannot get under there. If allowed in, they will store nuts, and create nests, which is unsanitary. The stainless steel wool will not rust out. The squirrels are repelled by the stuff. Some will try to chew through it but they can't get through.

I own an older car, by choice. When my heat shields on my exhaust system started degrading over time, I did a little research as to possible fixes, and found that stainless steel wool was a great option. I no longer have that annoying exhaust system rattle, and am no longer embarrassed by the sounds my car made, when on the road. From everything I've read, this fix should work for many years, and the leftover wool not used, serves me well in its other intended purposes. If you have a similar issue, I recommend this product. Definitely cheaper than buying new heat shields, or replacing exhaust components unnecessarily.

This material is very effective at stopping mice, but it is also a bit nasty to use. If installing this at or above the level of your face (for example, under a counter), wear closed splash proof goggles -- the kind used with hazardous liquids. You definitely should not risk getting small fragments in your eyes. Also use heavy leather work gloves, and clean up small particles generated by cutting the material.

It works just wasn't what I was expecting

Plugged some small ingress holes around plumbing and central air inlets to keep mice from entering. So far the mouse presence is now non-existent.

I am using this course steel wool as a bird nest deterrent on our commercial properties. This is a great product and well made.
