Worked like a charm!
Put to the test in its first use and succeeded!I had the bike on the rack when I went for a hike. Full parking lot in broad daylight. On my way back to my car I see, from a distance, that the bike is gone.As I walk around the bend I see the bike on the ground still locked to the rack which is still anchored to the trunk.Upon inspection I see the would be theif probably had scissors and cut the straps securing the rack to the trunk. They then realized it was anchored to the trunk and tried cutting the anchor not realizing it has cable inside and failed. They definitely tried to forcefully yank the anchor out of the trunk. The trunk was slightly forced ajar, but not enough for the anchor to come out, and it remained wedged in the trunk. After opening the trunk and moving the anchor out of the way it closes normally, so no damage to the car from forceful yanking. They then tried to cut the cable I had locking the bike to the rack, which is not a heavy duty cable, and weren’t able to.If they had cable cutters or something heavy duty they could have easily taken the whole thing. But in this instance the Thule bike rack lock did its job 👍🏼 I still need to buy a new rack though (they should have just loosened the straps!)

Very easy to use, but I'm not sure it was worth $30
Very basic and simple, but there's not really a lock....you just throw the end in the trunk to "lock" it. Not sure it was worth the price, but I did know that before I bought it, so I still gave it 5 stars.

Very, very functional
Like many anti-theft devices, this mainly useful for deterring casual and impulsive theft. Honestly, I keep my trunk rack on my car all the time, and I rely on this device more to keep my rack than I do to keep my bikes. It's true that a standard coated cable with "eyes" on both ends might serve almost as well, but the hockey-puck-like end piece on this Thule product really assures that no on can yank the cable out. Worth the money.

Works for what it needs to do
Bought this as my car has no hitch and needed a bike rack. I ended up using a bungee cord and the little flip down thing on the truck to hang it inside. Haven’t had a break in but seems pretty durable!

Simple (Moderate) Security for a Non-Hitch Bike Rack
I needed a solution to secure my non-Thule bike rack to my Jeep, replacing a similar item from a different manufacturer that had been damaged in an accident (I was rear-ended with the rack on, but not with my bike). This cable offers a layer of security that prevents "cut and run" opportunity thieves from slicing the rack straps and stealing the whole thing, presumably with a bike attached. So, the rack is secured to the Jeep, and my bike locked to the rack, for a moderate security solution for lower-risk areas and situations. This product is simple as anything - a steel cable wrapped in a nylon sheath, passing through the closed liftgate via the gate gasket and with a knobbed end too big to fit through the gasket space. Obviously, I wouldn't leave the racked bike in a high-risk setting, overnight or long-time unattended, but now I have some flexibility when traveling alone. Picture is of the older strap (I don't have one of the new yet) while on a visit to Flagler Beach, FL. Strap is highlighted with a purple ellipse.

Simple fix that works perfectly!
I was concerned about leaving my bike and bike rack attached to my car when unattended. This simple passive lock strap made it so that my rack is now securely attached to my car. It was very simple to install on my Honda Fit hatchback and I have more confidence now that it would take some hefty tools to remove my bike from my car. Worst case, I think I would come out to the bike chained to the rack, the rack locked to the car and everything hanging off, but nothing stolen! As noted, it would take some serious tools to cut through the passive lock strap but it will certainly deter casual thieves.

OK Lock but not if Used as Instructed
About what I expected. This "lock" isn't going to thwart a determined thief but it might dissuade an opportunist. It would be easy to cut with any heavy wire cutters. Also, the instructions said to "loop locking strap around bottom or top bumper leg". I have a station wagon with a Saris bike rack and I found that, if I followed these instructions, all that was necessary to defeat the lock was to loosen the straps that secure the rack and then slip the loop off of the leg. Instead, I loop the locking strap around the center cylinder of my rack. I have found this to be much more effective. Please see attached picture.

Solid construction, worth the peace of mind
Better quality than I expected. The nylon covering the metal cables is very soft and I'm not at all worried about it scratching my car. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic on install. One of the pictures I included shows the crimped metal on the loop end revealed, but the rubber sleeve took some force to pull back and should stay in place during normal use. Trunk closed easily around the flat part of the strap. It is also longer than I expected. I didnt measure it before installing, but if anyone needs the length, I can post it.The cables dont seem very thick, so I bet a bolt cutter and some patience could get through it, but any thicker and it wouldn't fit through the trunk. Seems like a good design overall. It's anti-theft, so as long as the rack stays on my car, I'll keep the 5 stars. If that changes, I'll update.

Works Great!
My daughter was going away for college a few weeks ago and so we just purchased a trunk bike rack for her car. Only problem was whether or not somebody would steal the rack on her while she was in the store, biking somewhere etc... So thankful to Amazon who was able to get this lock strap to us within a couple of days before she left. It worked great on her little Honda and she had smooth sailing all the way down to where she was headed. Said it works like a charm and she feels secure now knowing the rack won't be stolen (bike was just a a cheapy lol)

Parfait
