Nutrition powerhouse, worth paying for shelled and blanched
After reading about the nutritional benefits and versatility of fava beans, I bought some and discovered that the skins need to be perled off after boiling. This turned into a tedious task, so I bought the shelled and blanched fava beans from Bob's Red Mill. This is well worth the extra cost, and the cost really is insignificant when considering all of the interesting ways to add fava beans to the diet. My favorites so far are dips or sandwich spreads, and falafel (authentically made by overnight soaking, then blending with tahini, garlic, lemon, olive oil and herbs and a little baking soda...no boiling needed!...then frying or baking the patties). These beans, when boiled have a different texture from most other beans such as pintos or navy beans. Bob's shelled and blanched favas are fresh and delicious.

I love these. Can't find then anymore at grocery so order here. They don't require soaking, simmer for 45 minutes, and they have such a fresh veggie taste

Childhood memories
Fava beans were one of several beans in a minestrone soup recipe. The favas were great! While they're yellow, my childhood memories are of brown beans used in Fuul, an Egyptian breakfast favorite.

Much Too Expensive Here
The beans are fine; they are Bob's Red Mill after all and all of Bob's products are good. The problem is the price. These are ridiculously expensive. You can buy the same size bag at the grocery store for less than $8.00.

Does not compare with fresh fave beans
I love fresh fava (or broad) beans. They have a distinctive, nutty flavor. For a few years, I was able to buy frozen fava beans at Trader Joe’s but they have stopped carrying them. These dried broad beans from Bob’s Red Mill do not come close to fresh or frozen. When cooked, these dried broad beans have a floury consistency and a slightly bitter taste.

Quality in taste
I just got back from Greece and had lived their fava bean dishes, and surprisingly, these were just as good!
