Makita XRU12Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless String Trimmer, Tool Only

I’m committed to the Makita line and have a half dozen of their cordless products, and I’ve never been disappointed. This has worked perfectly for my typical yard on a quarter acre lot. It took me a while get the hang of winding the line, but it isn’t difficult and the instructions are clear. I was concerned at first how quickly the pre-loaded line broke off, but it was just old and brittle, once I started loading new line it worked great. Makita always pays attention to detail, all adjustments, removals et. are done with a provided Allen wrench, and Makita provides a bag so you can keep it, your line, the manual and a pair of safety glasses secure and ready when you need them. Since I mostly hold it so it whips vertically (to maintain the lawn edge that was initially made by a blade trimmer), I’ve rotated the middle handle opposite of what is shown in the picture. It works so well I only have to make my initial blade cut at the beginning of the mowing season. Very satisfied.

What a difference from gas one I had! Very light, super easy to use. My 4 ah battery lasts over 40 min and still power left. I have 3 acres and I finish all my weedwacking on same battery. The spool is still original did not have to change the trimmer line yet, and I had used it twice a week for the past 1.5 mos. Very quiet, I can do trimming 6 in the morning, no one will complain! Love it! Definitely buy it. It wacks even dirt, great power for a battery operated.

There is a cheaper model that only has one string and feels somewhat like a toy.... it whirs an spins but did not do well actually cutting the grass.This one is PERFECT for the homeowner that is dealing with the occasional overgrown flowerbed or odd part of the yard.... lots of power for grass and regular type weeds. Thick stalk weeds and bushes will need a different type of machine but this is perfect for maintaining a yard. I like that it just has a basic little shield and the whip cutter... no gimmicky huge metal arms to guide me or covers that block my vision. The design is closer to what you would find on a gas powered weed eater designed for folk who know how to use the tool and do not need all the safety and "guide" features that get in the way.

I like the fact that there's no gas to bother with, the unit is light weight and maneuverable. It doesn't have as much power as a 30cc gas unit but performs very respectfully. No regrets on the purchase.

Since I already had a Makita chain saw that uses the same batteries as this trimmer, I decided to give it a try. I was replacing a several year old gas powered Stihl trimmer that has gotten very difficult to start. This trimmer is perfect for me. It is much lighter than the Stihl and is very powerful. I trim a 1 1/2 acre yard with lots of trees to trim around and the battery lasts to do all the trimming. I like it so much that I gave the Stihl away.

Great for residential. Not for commercial use. Quick and easy to go out and trim the edges without putting gas in or dragging a chord. Plus I have several majors tools, why not one more

So far so good, the trimmer has plenty of power and the auto speed saves battery buy keeping the rpm down until you get into the thick stuff I'm using a 10 year old 5Ah battery and still has enough power to trim the edges of a 1600 square foot lawn more than once. Its super light and easy to use, no fuss with gas powered trimmer.. highly recommended

I sold it soon after trying. Good enough for average homeowner definitely not up to commercial use though. Not powerful enough to edge properly
