Not at all recommended
Dull and not especially fact filled. I think the author watched Disney's Brave as she was writing this book. I half expect the read that Henry VIII's sister was tuned into a bear. History is sloppy, too much conjecture on what she felt or thought. Skip it!

I liked it. if filled in the caps between Margaret Tudor (Henry VIII sister) and her other children of that line. What a treacherous time to live, especially if you were remotely related to the royal line. I thought it was very well written.

The other side of the Tudors
Easy reading as it is written like a novel but without all the descriptive text. ie: verbs and whimsical character thoughts. Full of information and a lovely insight into history. Well recommended

Surprise excellent read!
I love everything Tudor. This book was a revelation . I knew so little about Margaret Douglas except as a mention in books about Mary Queen of Scots. Wonderfully written and enjoyable.

Good Solid Effort
Really, I liked it. Interesting reading about a lesser known Tudor. Nothing riveting but good information.

Shockingly bad...
The review title says it all... Horrid writing, exceptionally boring, poorly organized. One of the worst books I have ever come across.

A biography, not a novel
I must have misread the text describing this book as I thought I'd purchased a novel. Even though I am fascinated by Margaret Douglas, I found this book dull and uninspiring sorry, author. I felt I'd wasted my money, but I am sure other people will take much from this.

Fascinating
Very detailed and true to the era, the author used letters sent at the time in the 'English' of that era to give it depth. Well written and most enjoyable!

I read a book a week on average and for the first time ever I have given up on a book after the first few chapters. Totally indigestible, with an avalanche, not to say a barrage, of obscure names that completely confuse the story line. Definitely a must miss.

Cannot recommend
Muddled and inaccurate. Almost impossible to read, even if you know something about that time in history. People are referred to by several different names within one paragraph. Her father and brother were not killed by Henry VII as stated. There are too many suppositions. Although it is an interesting story, you will not be any the wiser having read this book.

Margaret Douglas is a frequently overlooked character in history. Mary McGrigor brings her to life finally. I found the book very readable and enjoyable. It has an intriguing narrative. This woman was very nearly Queen of England.

Error-ridden and poorly written.
I have found this book to be very disappointing. I have read a great deal of medieval history, and while occasional minor errors are forgivable, this book is peppered with inaccuracies in dates, names and places which a competent editor ought to have picked up. I also find it to be poorly written, which makes it a slog to get through, rather than an enjoyable read.

Poor
A very disappointing book. There are numerous appalling, basic errors (e.g."Henry (VIII) and Margaret's grandfather, Henry VII"), confusions (e.g. referring to Margaret's husband as Archibald Douglas, Earl of Angus, then as Angus, Earl of Douglas) and a poor writing style. These in just the first few pages. The chapters are ridiculously brief and interrupt any flow that might be possible if it were not for the grammar and writing style. The book seems to waiver between historical fiction and an attempt at serious history, and consequently achieves neither. I read a lot of history texts and fiction and I am not encouraged to read anything from this writer again.

A disappointing summary of a remarkable life
Very disappointed with this as a piece of historical writing. The author seemed to drift off into historical fiction at times rather than sticking to facts - became a bit aggravating. Also found chapters of only a page or so in length silly. Felt like they had to bulk out the text to make the book a reasonable length. Shame because this is a character worthy of a more refined biographers touch Alison Weir perhaps
