My First Prayers

I have bought several copies of this book to give as gifts at infant Christenings or baptisms. It is a sturdy hardcover book, with a sort of padded feel to it, that could feasibly be wiped off with a soft cloth if it got dirty. Inside the front cover, there is a decorative 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" oval frame insert. When possible I take a photo of the baby at the ceremony to later slip in the frame. There is also a decorative circle to fill in (For -, with love from-, and the date.) Illustrated by the sweet portraits of children by Bessie Pease Guttman (full page illustrations in beautiful pastels - both boys and girls - almost all toddlers, a few infants, a few older children, a few mothers, and a few pets, accompanied by well known prayres that most of us learned when we were young.It is also a nice gift to buy for yourself - so pretty, and even if you are old and gray, it will bring back memories of your own childhood days and those of your children, and you can slip in the frame an old baptism or first communion photo of yourself. A beautiful book!

We LOVE Bessie Pease Gutmann artwork! Her drawings are the sweetest children and they look angelic!We have a magazine cover from 1911 that was done by Bessie and had it framed!

This beautiful book took me back to my childhood when people had framed prints of this artist in their homes, including my own home. I intend to give this to my six-year-old granddaughter with the hope she will love these prayers and pictures as much as I do!
