I work in IT and use this to migrate user data
When installing or deploying new PCs, I have to move all of the user's data from their old computer to a new computer. Nearly every PC is SSD, so I needed an external SSD to speed up the migration process. I cut my average migration time from 3 hours to 1.5 hoursI bought this unit about 6 months ago and use it to do migrations almost every day: we are talking TBs of data per week. I haven't had a single problem with it and it's still running great.

Super fast when it works
I used this to consolidate the backups from all my devices and restore it to my newest laptop with wonderful usb-c 3.1. the transfer was blazing fast. I set it aside for a while as the internal nvme drive is just as fast and plenty large for now. the problem is now a couple months later, I want to use it again, and it keeps connecting and disconnecting from my computer. in device manager it shows up as a 3.1 extensible device, then disappears. maybe 15 seconds later it appears again, then disappears a few seconds later. if i plug it in with a USB C to A cable it works, but I might as well buy some slow ssd usb 3.0 drive if I'm going to use USB-A...not sure what changed, but the USB-C port no longer seems to support the device

Awesome SSD for a Mac
Bought the 2tb version of this drive to make a bootable backup for my late 2012 iMac using carbon copy cloner. It's one of the recommended drives on the CCC website so I took a chance and bought it. My old drive was a traditional HDD, which was slow to back up and very slow when acting as a startup disk. This SSD is fast as expected. I am just using the standard USB 3.0 port since my iMac doesn't USB-C ports. This is only a little slower to boot up from than my internal fusion drive, amazing! Backups are much faster as well. Drive doesn't run hot either. Highly recommended!

Can't work off of it as described
UPDATE: the drive just crashed. Only four months in and it crashed! I haven't even finished my project I bought it for. Other drives purchased at the same time still going strong. Very disappointed.Original review: I bought this because the description made it sound like I could work on a film directly off of this SSD drive. I've done it with other SSD drives, so I knew it should work. But I barely got started on a project and immediately had playback issues. Switched the working file to a different SSD drive I have and had no problems. It's too big a hassle to move all of my files at this point, so won't be returning for my own sanity, but I wouldn't recommend this as a working drive. This drive will sadly only be storage for me, and I could have gotten good storage at a much cheaper price. Disappointing.

Great amount of hard drive storage, I wish it ran full speed for more than 30 seconds.
I bought this drive because as a filmmaker filming everything in 6k raw, I wanted fast transfers. I record everything onto 1tb T7 drives (they get 1000MBs) and transfer to this drive. It's really nice having 8tb but its write speed cut to 160MB/s after 30 seconds. I used to buy seagate fast drives that were 4tb (they stopped making them) and they would run at 250MBs the whole time. I've tried many different cables and use TB3 ports and it just doesn't keep its speed. Max I've ever seen is 400MBs for about 15 seconds. It's definitely not worth $1k.

4TB Oyen SSD is fast, robust and reliable
Sure the 4TB Oyen drive is spendy, but what are your time and data worth? Compared to other external SSDs, the 4TB Oyen drive is a good value. The 8TB version is an even better value. I'll still use spinning platters for archiving data (my 19-year-old archived hard drives still work reliably), but my daily and weekly backup regimens now use Samsung T5 and Oyen U32 SSDs. I'll add more large-capacity Oyen SSDs as my budget allows. I should note that my operating system is MAC's Big Sur 11.4.

So Far: Perfect!
I have been warned that, although SSD drives are much faster, smaller, and better in every way than conventional drives, when they fail, they can fail irretrievably. Dunno to what extent that caveat holds true, but -- just to forestall catastrophe -- I purchased two of these drives (to hold my gigantic iTunes Library), so I can keep one off-site, and switch them periodically. (One should probably do that even with conventional drives, right?) So far, my first U32 Shadow Dura is working perfectly, and I am patting myself on the back for having bought it. I like these little SSD drives so much better than the clunky old conventional external drives that I used to use. (I have another 4TB SSD drive that I use for my Time Machine backups.). I highly recommend this drive to anyone contemplating the purchase of an external drive -- You will not regret the expenditure.

Purchased to Use with Carbon Copy Cloner at their recommendation
I purchased this drive to put into offsite rotation for cloning the boot drive on my iMac. Carbon Copy Cloner (great software!) recommended this device. It is a good value considering its solid-state 1TB, very small, zero noise, undetectable heat and weighs almost nothing. 3 Year Warranty!!I recommend it!9-25-20 Update: I needed some tech support for an issue that came up so I called their phone number and left a VM. They got back to me within 24 hours. They gave me some direction and everything worked out. I was surprised by how prompt, friendly and effective their service and warranty support actually is. Very cool company.
