introduction collection.
Pretty routine. Not much I haven't heard on other collections. But certainly a good starting point for the newcomer.

Somewhat wanting
The music in this three-CD collection is tremendous. What is very disturbing is the lack of any liner notes or booklet. If you want just the music, this collection is fine. If, however, you want a full discography with session dates and catalog numbers, then this collection is less than stellar. Yes, I can likely find most of that information online; I'm accustomed to digging for those details. But the lack of such information in this set means I'll likely never buy another CD set from Big3 Records again.

I really enjoy the music of Bob Wills and it's a treat ...
I really enjoy the music of Bob Wills and it's a treat to hear the music of the band's contemporaries. And this three CD collection contains a lot of the greats from the 30's and 40's.

Western Swing was wonderful!
A superb compilation of many of the greats of western swing. This kind of music stays with you and enlightens most people who have never heard it before. Be prepared for a treat!

Bought it for a friend who loves that really old classic country swing sound. Good for dancing faster.

Old-Tyme Western Swing.. Nice.!!
Bob Wills predominates (as well he should) and there are more tracks from the Light Crust Doughboys, Spade Cooley, etc but basically this 3-cd compilation doesn't wander out of the 1930s and 40s so what you are getting is VINTAGE western swing. This is reflected in the quality of the source material. You can sometimes hear the actual 78 rpm needle hacking into the grooves of that wonderful old shellac. I don't mind this at all but you have to be in the mood and mindset for listening to old records.. don't expect HiFi. Don't expect Asleep At The Wheel clarity. No info on this 6-face digi-pak except for about half a dozen pics, a list of songs and the artists performing them. No recording dates.. no other personnel data. This is your basic package and for the price I suppose that is fair enough. 60 tunes for under 4 quid... yeah, I can live with that.

The title says it all.
Good listening throughout, its only drawback is that a good number of the tracks here appear on most of the other Western Swing CDs currently available. However, this is as good as most of the alternative issues if you want a showcase of this type of music.
