Nice Cookbook of Dairy-free Meal Plans and Recipes
Meal prep books are certainly popular these days. It is understandable. We are so busy that sometimes it's just easier to stop and pick up something while we're out. But you have so much more control when you make your food yourself. And sometimes that control is needed, such as when a family member has a food intolerance. That was the impetus for this book. The author is the mother of a dairy-intolerant child. She has a background as a baker and food magazine editor, so she knows a little about cooking and baking! And you can tell by the recipe quality, both the combination of flavors and how well-written and precise they are.The book opens with an introductory section that first looks at why choose to go dairy-free—it doesn’t have to be because of intolerances—and then why meal prep. Her list of issues that one can have with dairy resonated with me as I'm a vegetarian who strives to be vegan most of the time. She also goes into detail about the ingredients to avoid and possible problematic ones as well as the staples you should have on hand. The recipe and meal prep part of the book is divided into two broad sections: six weeks of meal prep plans and a section of bonus and staple recipes. While she does say that you can use store-bought dairy substitutes, like nut milks and vegan cheese, she has recipes for some of these things, like cashew milk and Parmesan in the Staples section. The meal prep plans are bunched into two-week increments, progressively adding more recipes to prep. Each meal plan is designed for one person to have five meals, so if you have more people in your family or like leftovers, you can just increase the ingredient amounts. But this is perfect if only one person in your family needs to eat dairy-free while the rest of the family does not. Each meal plan has a shopping list and an overall game plan for your meal prep session. Then she lists each recipe followed by storage and reheating suggestions as well as some ways to alter the recipe to make it a little different. Many recipes are simple but still sound tasty, while others would have a complex layering of flavors and textures. The staple and bonus recipe section offers so many more recipes. As one with vegan aspirations, I love her staple recipes for dairy alternatives. I'll certainly be making some of those. This bonus section will certainly give you ideas for recipes to mix and match in your own prep plans or ones to substitute and existing ones. All in all, I thought this was a very well done book with straightforward meal prep plans and delicious-sounding recipes.I received a free copy of this cookbook, but that did not affect my review.

Delicious and Fun
This book begins by exploring the different benefits of living dairy-free, such as anti-aging, clear skin, improved digestion, and a stronger immune system. There are lists of foods to avoid, common dairy substitutes, and staples to include in your kitchen pantry.Chapter Two is all about Meal Prep: how to make large batches and store them, how to plan ahead, and what not to prep ahead of time. There is a chart that shows how long meats and salads will keep fresh in the fridge or freezer. The next chapters give detailed meal plans for 6 weeks, with a shopping list for each week, and recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The recipes have wonderful tips for substituting ingredients, as well as labels for Nut-Free, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Vegan, and Egg-Free options. There are also instructions for how to store and reheat the leftovers. There are also bonus recipes that are not part of the meal plan, but can be used to supplement the meal plan or used as snacks. These include recipes for sauces, chocolate protein muffins, orange chicken with broccoli basmati, veggie burgers, sesame chicken wings, and more. There are gorgeous photos of the prepared food at the beginning of each chapter, but I wish there were more photos so that the reader could see what the food will look like before trying a recipe.Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone.

Nice ideas for my dairy free toddler, and pleases the whole cheese-loving family!
** I received this book as a review copy from the publisher **My toddler is dairy-free (dairy flairs up her eczema) and I'm always looking for recipes that are dairy-free that the whole family will love.I recently went through this book and marked a whole bunch of recipes I want to try. They all look good, and look like ones we would all love to eat! I just made tex mex chili and corn mac, and OMG she ate 5 bowls (kid-sized bowls, but still!) I am expecting my second baby at the end of August and will be stocking my freezer with some dairy-free options from this book so we don't have to scramble when things get a little busier around here.I especially appreciate the recommendations for dairy-free cheese, cream, milk products at the beginning. Not having to waste money trying out different expensive non-dairy options is really helpful. So far, all the recommendations have been SPOT ON and so delicious even my discerning 3 year old will gobble them up.
