Great everyday wear watch
I love the clean, simple, look of this watch. The fully numbered dial makes it easy to check time at a glance, and thanks to the cheerful green glow of Seiko's Lumibrite, it's just as easy to read in the dark. No hacking or hand winding with the 7S26 movement, but plenty accurate and reliable if worn daily. 30 meter water resistance rules out swimming/diving but it's more than adequate protection against sweat, rain, or the occasional dunking that an everyday watch could be exposed to. As for the bracelet, I see folks removing it in favor of leather bands. To each their own, leather bands are comfortable and stylish. That said, there's nothing wrong with the factory bracelet once you resize it. More importantly, the stainless steel bracelet can hold up to working outdoors in the heat of summer without very quickly looking and smelling like the dog's chew toy. All in all an outstanding everyday watch that should give years of service at an affordable price. Nothing not to like with this one.

I'm a collector and this watch is legit!
The media could not be loaded. Ive been a watch enthusiast for a long time and it's kind of funny to me that I'm just buying my first Seiko 5 after all these years. I got this one because I love thedial design, which dates back to the same model worn by troops in Vietnam. It looks tough on a NATO or rubber strap, but dresses up nicely on leather. Honestly, it kind of gives me a vintage Rolex Explorer vibe. The fact that its only about $100 means I don't worry at all about banging it around, but I still know I'm wearing a quality automatic watch. The applied numerals look fantastic and have more powerful lume than any swiss watch I own. Seiko is king of lume. It does wear a little small at 37mm, but it's perfect on my wrist. Comfortable and unobstrusive. Like most Seikos, it looks and feels like a more expensive watch than is. I just got this and I can see it being my daily wearer for a long time to come. If you want vintage vibes in a watch that has a actual vintage history, this is a really solid choice.P.s. The bracelet it comes with is terrible. This watch is a strap monster and looks infinitely cooler when it's on a NATO or strap.

A very nice watch for people who wear a watch.
Overall very happy with this watch after wearing it constantly for about 6 months. I've owned dozens of watches both mechanical and quartz. The 7s26 movement, being non hack and automatic only, seems to be designed for someone like me. I don't swap watches and I don't need accuracy better than 1 minute. That said, mine came pretty poorly adjusted, losing about 30s a day, but with a bit of tweaking after it wore in, I'm losing 2 seconds a day on average which is way more accurate than my actual life requires. I'm a professional carpenter and it seems fine with that fact, keeping good time despite the truly awful things I put it through.I'm of a particular vintage of human that likes fully numbered arabic dials. So that's a plus. The day and date complication is quite nice and it works well unless you're up in the middle of the night when it takes a while to turn over. I also like the 4 o'clock crown because it's less intrusive . Also given my age, I'm used to wearing watches that are more like 34mm. This is, in fact, the largest wristwatch I've ever worn at 37mm. I have 7 1/2 inch wrists and big honking baseball mitts for hands. Watch size is entirely a style choice. Now for the things I don't like. I don't like the hands, just personal i guess a lot of people do like them. 3 ATM water resistance is pretty shabby. I actually expect that's how I kill this watch. WTF with the display caseback? Who in the hell wants to see a 7s26? I'd rather have it be a little thinner and lighter with a steel case back. And of course the bracelet is garbage. Throw it out if you have body hair. That being said, it's a really nice watch for the price and I've grown to trust it as a timepiece. It's functional, appropriately sized, legible, and robust.

does not work - do not buy
worked only 5 months with constant readjusting, then died, cost a lot, model number on watch does not match any on the official website, not authentic, cannot get product support since this model does not exist in reality, wasted a lot of money, WARNING!!! do not buy!

Rugged and/or dressy
First things first, as stated by nearly everyone else, change out bracelet for a band.Just like the “MACV SOG” it’s modeled after, this watch performs amazingly as a rugged field watch, but dresses up nice for formal wear as well. Recently purchased this with a leather band, wore it with a suit to a wedding, and aesthetic was perfect. No complaints on function or movements on this watch. Accuracy seems to be there with little to no change from day to day. Lum works as designed. Comfortable size, not too small, not too big. All in all, great watch, favorite one I now own.

VH31 Quartz movement is Better
I returned the SNK381 because I thought it was defective. I didn't know it needed to be shaken to bring it alive.1. Instructions were not included.2. I learned I don't desire automatic movements. That said, if instructions were sent along with it, I most likely would have kept it, . For geeks an automatic movement can't be replaced, however, if you are not a geek and need a serious tool watch take a look elsewhere. I gave it five stars because it's a high quality watch for those who desire looking at mechanical movements and dealing with its antics.
