I hv a pool & numerous aquariums…
& while I’ve never used this brand of pool filter sand for a pool filter. I can tell ya that I most definitely wld not! Unless… you wanna pre-rinse & agitate n a 5g bucket until your blue in the face. It’s the dirtiest pool filter sand out there. I suppose that u cld back wash & rinse n pool filter which wld b definitely “knock out” the blue in the face bit. But there are definitely much better & cleaner pool filter sands out there. I use this in aquariums & use the 5g bucket rinse & agitate gig all while sitting on the edge of the bath tub. And u wanna do only enuf sand to fill 1/4 of the bucket b/c it’s so dirty. Anyway… if this is ur only option… Good Luck!

Do it right and you wont have a problem
So, I almost did not get this after reading some of the reviews. I decided to do it anyway. And i am glad i did.I put the amount of required sand in the tank. I did not put all the sand in at one time. I put a quarter of the total used in then added some water. I broke the total into 4. Added water each time. When i was finished. I leveled the sand. I back washed until i got clear water. Then i rinsed. I did this 3 times. I then Switched to filter and let it run for an hour. No blow back what so ever. I then switched to circulate and put my chems in.Some of you who write a review should learn what your doing first. You get made cause of Operator Error and write a bad review. I am willing to be that after your first back wash you switched right to filter or cycle. And never rinsed. This stuff is 7-10 bucks at Home Depot. It worth the money.

Worked great.
Contrary to the previous review, this sand worked great for me. I have an Intex Ultra Frame 32' by 16' with a 16" Intex Sand Filter with the Saltwater Chlorine Generator... living in a rural area there was only one sand available locally. I purchased the "no brand" pool filter sand and installed it. After backwashing and rinsing the sand I quickly found out the sand was too fine as it began pumping out into the pool. I emptied the sand and ran the filter without sand until I could find a suitable sand. Intex recommends a '20 grade' sand with a particle size between .85 and .45. The Quikrete sand label does not boast a grade but a quick visit to their website revealed a particle size of .85 to .425. I decided to try this sand and found the particles to be much larger than the local "no brand" sand. A quick backwash and rinse and my filter was up and running perfectly. Thank you Quikrete.

LW) and you will be amazed of the price difference (usually $5 to $10 for ...
I installed this sand on my brand new Hayward S244T. Most people have trouble because instructions are not followed. You must backwash/rinse before switching to filter mode. I switched from a cartridge filter and water has been crystal clear. This sand costs a fraction of the price compare to the brand name sand sold at pool stores. Look at your hardware store (HD, LW) and you will be amazed of the price difference (usually $5 to $10 for a 50 lb bag). The quality is the same as Hayward's recommends. Just make sure you read your filter instructions.
