Given the mixed reviews, I was ready to receive what would amount to sawdust to use as an honorary mention for combustible incense I add a bit of sandalwood fragrance into. My early solo burn testing seemed to confirm this expectation for heat reaction. HOWEVER, when I used it as a filler in a mix with vetiver EO and sweet myrrh....the sandalwood stood up loud and proud against the other fragrance I expected to dominate the blend, despite me using once heated powder a second time. I sifted it for combustible mixes and found that because I'm fussy about texture it was just a bit course, but a 1/2 cup of superfine to 1 tablespoon of larger grains is saving me quite a lot of time powdering it myself. I may look for a higher grade of sandalwood in the future for a solo fragrance, but for the cost, quantity, and shipping time it's pretty good.

I really did not know what to expect, and upon arrival I was both pleased and disappointed.Disappointment: The size of the box is so tiny, I would think for my money I would have got a bit more sandalwood powder. After all, in powder form the wood is going to be fluffier and airy, thus a small box promises even smaller contents. I took a photo with my medium-sized lady hand beside the box for size reference.Pleasant surprise: Upon opening the plastic bag within the box, I got a potent whiff of sandalwood. This is the real McCoy! That, alone, made me very, very happy.I am ecstatic to make use of this in incense recipes. I will most likely buy more in the future despite the modest amount. On a side note, I think if you cut it with some other wood which has a lower scent value, you can easily stretch this amount without losing its potency.

The smell is subtle and not overwhelming. It's packaged well and nicely presented. It's burns quickly though ..... a drop filling a charcoal tablet burns out in less than 5 minutes. The smell also doesn't linger for too long.I don't plan on burning it often and for long periods of time, so for now, the small bag is good enough for me.

I've smoked this "sandalwood" on church, self-lighting charcoal and Japanese temple, bamboo charcoal tablets, each time with the same result. This is either very very low quality sandalwood or not the real thing. Smells like burning wood, nothing else. Zero sandalwood scent. Not even a subtle hint of it, and I have a powerful sense of smell. Waste of money. Purchase elsewhere.
