Great fish scaler
It's getting difficult to find fish scalers, and the ones you find in stores are usually rather useless, cheap affairs. Personally, I don't like scaling fish, buy my Chinese wife wants some nice fish cleaned whole, so I always clean a few the way she likes, and fillet the rest. This scaler works very well. Note that there's no wood in the construction to get grungy over time. Also note the angle at which the scaling 'blades' are at, which allows for controlling the scales somewhat, rather than allowing them to fly in all directions. Don't get me wrong: the scales will still fly all over the place if you don't put your hand over the blade, but the angle allows decent control. One other point--and it's hard to see in the picture--is the last 3/4", or so, the pointed area, has NO TEETH. At first, I thought that was a design flaw, but it serves two purposes: 1) it works very well in close quarters such as behind fins, beneath dorsal fins, the short breast area of bluegills, etc. 2) it works quite well to get that hard-to-get area INSIDE the fish rib cage (at the rear). And here's a hint: after you use this tool to get the rib cage area, use a FIRM toothbrush to clean it out.

Because of the shape of this item, the fish ...
Because of the shape of this item, the fish scales fly up into your face. I do not use it anymore after the first time. I went back to using a flat blade knife.
