Walter Braunfels, who died in 1954, was one of the great twentieth-century German composers who were temporarily eclipsed by the Nazi era and the 1950s avant-garde. This second volume in Dutton's survey of Braunfels's memorable orchestral music, featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Johannes Wildner, spans from his luxuriant early Symphonic Variations on a French Children's Song to the utterly delightful orchestral suite The Glass Mountain (Der Glaserne Berg) to the powerfully satisfying Sinfonia Brevis. All are world premere recordings.

Absolutely Terrific Music
Although I have admired Braunfels' opera "Die Vogel" for many years, this collection of his lighter works caught me totally unprepared. How unreservedly delightful they are. And they are delivered by Johannes Wildner and the BBC Concert Orchestra with an infectious "joie de vivre" which will delight music lovers of all ages. By the way, the Dutton Epoch red book recording is absolutely first rate HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
