Ralph Steadman: A Life in Ink

A genius with barbed ink
Great book, great value and of course Steadman has been that creative, ascerbic, anarchic genius for may decades and this tome celebrates and illustrates all of those qualities. His visceral attacks on the pompous, self serving and indulgent protagonists of culture, politics and all manner of assumed authority are well documented in these dense pages. And it is a heavy book, startling in the brutal slapped-ink construction of its images, poignant in its humour and wholly evocative of a more truthful less sanitised view of society and its repeated failure to change.

Genius at work
I know he’d hate the word ‘genius’ being used but this wonderful retrospect gives a real insight into the mind of one of the great artistic satirists ever. Not just for the coffee table but also a great source of inspiration for any budding caricaturist etc.

Highly Recommend
Massive and full of Steadman's art from beginning to end. Would have liked his insights but honestly it's just amazing having nearly all his work compiled like this.

A lifetime of Steadman at your fingertips!
Terrific book overall, great page size, decent paper, well bound so it will take a lot of regular use. Those are all positives. While I have his book on America, with some of the great Vietnam era work in separate book, I think that work is so great it warranted inclusion here. I would also have liked to see some work in progress … chapters showing the process from birth of idea through to final image. Still glad to have this in my collection.
