Not fit for purpose
An excellent purchase if you’re planning on walking the mythical grasslands of the Gobi Desert, but about as useful as a paper watering can if you’re simply wanting to walk the dog through wet grass closer to home. Should you be stupid enough (as I was) to purchase a pair of these on the assumption that ‘waterproof’ actually means preventing the ingress of water, then here are couple of tips. Firstly, before venturing into the fields, make sure to pre-soak your socks at a comfortable 40 degrees to help negate the shock of cold morning dew. Secondly, upon your return, remember to open the windows before setting fire to your boots as burning damp trash tends to create a lot of smoke.

Don't last
I agree with all the comments so far. Very comfortable but they just don't last. We walk most days but not on any rough terrain. After just a few months they split. I paid £42 but I see they are now £80 to buy again. No chance. If they'd lasted a few years I'd be buying them again but as it is I'll have to look elsewhere. Shame. I have written to Hi Tec so I'll see what the reply is.Just an update. The supplier ShoeShoe Debo refused to. Insider a replacement so I paid them to send them to Hi Tec. Hi Tec looked at the boot and immediately agreed to a replacement boot. Can't argue with that!Proof will be in a few months into next winter when I have worn them for a few months - will they split again? Can't fault Hi Tec who are clearly keen to uphold a positive reputation although ShoeShoe Debo should have take. Ownership instead of fobbing me off with 'normal wear and tear' for a so called budget boot.

Expensive landfill
They were waterproof for about a week. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and treated them with a waterproofer, no change. The sole on the front of the boot has now come unstuck. The edges of the black trim are peeling. My previous pair walked up and down all the UK mountains, these collapsed walking around a golf course. Not impressed. They look exactly the same as my old pair but have been manufactured to a completely different specification. Rubbish

Didn't even last a year! My other Hi-Tec leather boots are still wearable after almost nine years.
Credit where it's due, they were light and comfortable straight from the box.But not waterproof and they deteriorated really quickly, especially the 'reinforced' toe. Normally this is a rubberised part of the sole, not on these boots. Don't be fooled by the picture, it's some cheap tape that splits and detaches from the sole. Ten months, minus the five winter months where I couldn't wear them, so twenty weeks wear for under forty pounds. Two quid a week. Now off to landfill sadly.

Soles are slippy when wet
Right boot feels a bit pinched at the front. There's less eyelets near the top then I'm used to (and sure last pair had more). The boots are very slippy in the wet and on smooth surfaces and I've almost done the splits in a graceful style.Very comfortable insole, don't need breaking in, haven't got wet socks yet and hopefully they'll last out the year. My last pair, the sole separated at the toe although the upper was in perfect condition still and the sole had very little wear after a years use (I multi-day hike and hill walk in them).Update: I downgraded my review to 1 star. This, my second pair in a year have also split at the toe and the sole has worn through already. Less than 4 months average usage. Waste of money. They also leaked early on and are too soft and flex too much.

Relatively Sturdy Boots but not Waterproof and Replacing after 7 Months
Relatively sturdy boots which I've worn every day for 7 months for walking the dog, estimate just over 800 miles in them from my tracker. They were waterproof for the first month or so and then it started seeping in through the seams, behind the big toe on both boots. That's not from walking through water, it's from walking through wet grass. Around a month ago the soles on both boots started separating from the upper at the front and instep, as such I've decided to replace them with another brand.Comfort-wise, they were really comfortable and provide good ankle support. If you do a lot of walking in all conditions then I'd probably not recommend them but if you're an occasional walker in the drier months then I'd say they are good value and could last you a lot longer.

Comfortable all day, but NOT waterproof and soles coming loose in less than 2 months and 300 km.
### Update 2 ###Finally found out where the water is coming in and it's the same on both boots - the sole is coming away from the uppers on the outside at the front of each boot. VERY disappointed after less than 2 months and around 250-300 km. They are really comfortable boots which makes it all the more galling.Rating amended accordingly & will contact supplier &/or HiTec to see what their view is.## Update ##Over a month later at an average of 10km/day and I can say these are just as comfortable and wearing well EXCEPT they are NOT waterproof. At best I would describe them as water resistant but it doesn't take much for your feet to get soaked. Other than that they are no less comfortable to walk in but less than 10 minutes on short wet grass is all it takes.Frustrating because other than that they are holding up well.# Original review #They fit me well and I have plenty of toe room. So far, they are confortable and appear to be waterproof as claimed. For the money I have no complaints whatsoever and am considering getting a second pair.
