Useful addition to any library of books on Queen Victoria
The best-known series of letters involving Queen Victoria is that between her and her eldest daughter Princess Vicky of Prussia, but this slim volume (there is another with later letters) of letters from Princess Alice (Victoria's second daughter) casts a useful sidelight on the family, with lots of interesting details of life in Hesse and the oppressive nature of Prussian encroachment. Alice's penchant for self-sacrifice is very clearly evident here.
