Q: I unfortunately put a self on backwards so the predrilled holes aren’t where I need them. I can’t face pulling it apart, can I drill my own holes?

No there’s only an internal shelf.

It is particleboard covered in a light veneer which is then stained dark to make it look like hardwood

Q: Can you adjust the top shelf? To higher or lower it?

No, it is really very easy to build, I did it in less than half an hour. You cannot adjust the shelf height, but I really don't think you need to, there is plenty of space and I would recommend this item all day long, I love it
