A great way to really learn Blender
Blender, one of the most impressive programs - period, is usually hard to learn because the resources for each feature are somewhat elusive as a beginner. Although I never made it to the professional level, just getting some basic skills were very helpful in understanding 3d, animation, and rendering.

Goes into great detail about some aspects of Blender, like Grease Pencil
I'm just starting out with Blender, and this book does a great job in two or three areas that are left untouched in most books on Blender. The title says it all-the example projects make it worth having and reading. But the real payoff, for me, is that this book is one of the only current sources of information about Grease Pencil. Many of the Blender books, even the good ones, omit GP as a subject. That's understandable, I suppose, since GP does not yield three-dimensional results, but my interest is in computer animation, and Blender may have the best collection of 2D animation features available south of Animate CC and Toon Boom.

chp 5 kitchen chair
Like a couple of the other reviews I had trouble with chapter 5. For the most part I was able to think back to what was taught in the book. We've never added Curves in previous chapters but, it's right under the Mesh menu that we've been using. Shade Smooth I stumbled upon though; I right clicked by accident and there it was! Never said it wasn't a modifier, or a menu, hotkey, nothin'. I was just going to skip it.Had to go to Youtube for Curve Deform. I ended up adding the curve modifier via properties instead of ctrl+p. That worked! And "Select a curve bezier, then use Alt+S to grow and shrink the slats' width to flow along with the chassis." . . . I- what? When did we learn this? I had enough trouble trying to use one curve and now I'm supposed to know how to apply a curve to an object that's flowing to another curve? . . . I'm not eve sure how to google that. For the most part the book's been great!! 1st and 2nd chapters guided you step by step. 3 and 4 were hands off just enough to force you to lean on what you've learned and problem solve. 5 started out like that, but dropped the ball on the chairs. Hopefully it just the chairs and the rest of the chapter is better.

Extremely Comprehensive!
I was not expecting such a large volume of information. . . text book level! It is hard to find comprehensive information that breaks down the processes so thoroughly and thoughtfully. It was obvious this was created by seasoned instructors who understand the processes of learning. The easy to follow step by step progressions through the projects is worth every penny!

A Great Read.
I did the stippling tutorial in Chapter 8 and it was easy to follow. I like the tone of the book. It feels like your favorite at teacher guiding you through the exercises. I would definitely recommend it to other people who want to get the most out of Blender.

Thank you
Taught me so much about my animation workflow. HAs walked me through 2D basics so well that i felt confident to try Blender, Mya, and Sketchbook. I need a new computer, but pencil and paper have to make a comeback. This book showed me all of it is possible.

To me it seam more complicated for somebody new to Blender
First of all, I do this for hobby and been using Lightwave 3d for years, but recent changes made desire to switch to Blender. I also old fashion and like to have books handy.Maybe it just me but it seam too complicated for a beginner to blender. I am desiring something to get started making new objects and navigating.
