two (sometimes) great tastes that are somehow great together
This book is everything you would expect it to be: 50s nostalgia versus 80s nostalgia, the eternal teenagers versus an alien, surreally high body counts, cheesy-but-enjoyable one-liners. Hip, self-aware, and utterly a train-wreck. Yet, it's a controlled train-wreck for your enjoyment. Alex de Campi manages to keep just enough of the overly sweet feel of Archie in this blood-soaked comic to be appealing.Part of the appeal is that while Archie is enjoyable in its one-liner s, and its premises are from the past. The characters are two-dimensional, but I am guessing somewhere in the late 1990s, the comic became aware of its own cheese. This seemed more ironic than one could have suspected, and this shows up in the dialogue. Furthermore, while all the most idiotic and "classic" of Archie tropes are maintained, somehow the on-screen violence seems to be a commentary on the very premise. This is not to say this is "good" in a complicated way: it's the hard-candy of comics, or blunt force trauma if you prefer. Yet it is refreshing in its absurdity.

Best crossover I've ever read!
This book is an art-form! Probably my favorite book I've read the second half of the year! I am so glad I reserved my copy because this was the perfect and sick twisted combination of two characters I love. I loved reading Archie and Jughead comics growing up and I've always loved Predator and his conflicts with the Xenomorphs- Not the movies, those were garbage. This book brings together these two completely opposite characters and does not sacrifice good writing and spot on imitation of both in any way whatsoever. It was written like an Archie book and the characters, including Predator, were drawn like they were in the Archie world throwing in ridiculous gore and cheesy one liners like you were watching Riverdale being taken over by a Schwarzenegger/Stallone writer. Totally worth the read and as many times you'll re-read it. Worth every penny!

High expectations met
High expectations are dangerous, but this series was enjoyable and fresh to an Archie fan without an ounce of Predator knowledge.

The best thing to happen to comic books since Watchmen
I would have most likely rolled my eyes at such an over the top genre crossovers if it hadn't been for Afterlife with Archie. Afterlife also gave me the hope that this wouldn't be a bland bloodless crossover such as Archie meets the Punisher (Which I was surprised to see referenced in Issue 4).Each page made me excited for the next, and kept me laughing at its harsh dark humor. And, I was very glad to see that the hardback edition does in fact contain the mini crossovers featured at the end of each issue. I was worried that future readers may lose gems such as Sabrina meets Hellboy

A Crazy Crossover
Surprisingly, Archie vs Predator is a treat to fans of both series; at first you think the matchup is weird (compared to Predator vs Batman and all those other crossovers). However, once it sinks in that Archie and his friends could be anyone in real life that the Predator is hunting...it becomes a more enjoyable experience.Thrilling, a bit of a surprise, and lots of satire for the genre of both series. Definitely check this one out

Funny and completely awesome!
Great comic, really funny. It's a fairly typical teen slaughter horror story, not unlike Friday the 13th. Predator shows up and starts slaughtering the Archie crew one by one. The hilarious banter between the characters is of course the best part of any Archie comic. All the references to the Predator movies are also great.Would highly recommend to any Archie and Predator fans.

Loved it
There are a lot of Archie mash-ups (remember "Archie versus The Punisher"?) and this is one of the newer ones. Anyway, it's hilarious. It's kind of funny that Archie comics are doing some of the more "out there" stuff in the last few years, but it's well done. Thry nailed the characters and the art is so good. It's gorier than you remember Archie comics though, so be warned (as if you couldn't figure that out from the title)

Never a real big Archie or Predator fan but this mash up is quite good. The art is superb and there are laughs throughout. The story and "character development" are minimum but not too big of a problem. The whole book is in beautiful color.

Such strange awesome
This is a strange title if ever I read one, having heard it mentioned on an episode of the Big Bang Theory but imagining it was probably just a writers joke I took a chance and searched for it on Amazon, as it happened this really was a thing and I decided I definitely had to read it.The book includes all the comics from the complete beginning to end story arch, there is a great foreword (one page) and afterword (two pages), cover art and illustrations, sketch book, promo pages for dark horse comics predator, archie comics and another series of comics, Grindhouse, which one of the authors works upon. The foreword is brilliant, describing how the idea emerged, how the character of Archie has changed, been killed in other story arcs, the success of other titles is discussed, including Afterlife With Archie (which I also bought and read at the time I bought this, in fact read it first, which as it turns out was a good idea), and the series of comics which gave rise to even conceiving this versus match story line, which are cross over comics in which Archie meets The Punisher Frank Castle (which I have searched and better searched for on Amazon but consistently draw a blank on) which then lead to Archie meeting The Ramones, KISS and Glee. The afterword necessarily covers some of the same ground as that in the foreword but its interesting to recap on all of it after reading the comic story arc and also really interesting to see the sketches, how the artists "toonified" The Predator and also illustrating their artistic versatility. It was also good to read how the project management had decided exactly upon the style of the comic, as is always the case with cross overs, you've got to wonder if the artists and writers are going to go more of the style which has made one or the other of the starring characters popular or not (something I've observed for better and worse in the DC/2000AD cross overs which were either more Batman and less Dreddy or more Dredd and less Batty, to mention just one, there have been a number of DC/Darkhorse cross over events too, Aliens, Predator, Batman, Superman, Justice League). In this case after going darker with Afterlife With Archie this is old skool or traditional Archie writ large (no spoilers there as surely it is very much in evidence from the cover art alone), at least the story line is very Archie, until suddenly it isnt (or so the afterword suggests they aimed for in production), all teen hi-jinx until its battle for survival time. The humour is great, the artists and writers have decided to reference a lot from the original Predator movie, the Predator comics and Alien Versus Predator universe, it all works, its really funny and amusing, very diverting from more serious reading, in comics or otherwise. Its also very, very apparent how much fun all those working on the project were having from the foreword, afterword and work itself, its great to have the chance to share in such a work of sheer fun. I do not think there is anything here that anyone, fan of either Archie or Predator comics, is going to take exception to or find offensive, no real accounting for taste and the devoted nature of fandom sometimes but I certainly dont see it, maybe I am not a dedicated enough reader of either series to consider this a travesty or insult (I've heard that Sigourney Weaver hates the Aliens Versus Predator franchise because she thought it was trivializing or ridiculous).Recommended. Whether you are a fan of either franchise or not. Such strange awesomeess. How to follow it though?

A Fun Romp
A fun little crossover with the Archie gang as fodder for the infamous bounty hunter. What more could you ask for?

Ruining your childhood with glee!
Archie comics are a staple of childhood in North America and reading AvP is like watching the school you attended as a child burn down. Characterizations are as expected...Archie is still the relatable everyman, Betty is the sweet girl next door, Reggie is the narcissistic jerk, Jughead still thinks with his stomach, etc., making their probable deaths that much more heartbreaking. Indeed, the creative team was given permission to kill off any character, and no one is safe. The familiar art style hammers it home even harder. As the behind the scenes section correctly points out, rendering the Predator in the cuter Archie style is makes it more unsettling. And the writing and dialogue, taking the familiar teen slasher genre and applying it to Archie and the gang, and ending it with a twist (and twisted!) ending.A must for any modern sci-fi fan, although Archie fans may wish to hold off.

For Archie fans, a total blast.
Really hilarious take on an Archie mash-up. Especially that it's fully rooted in the art and style of classic Archie comics. As a Predator fan too, there's just so much Alex gets right with this story, and if you know the script, it's got some lovely Easter eggs.
