Trishna (Freida Pinto, Slumdog Millionaire) lives with her family in a village in Rajasthan, India's largest state. As the eldest daughter, she works in a nearby resort to help pay the bills. Jay (Riz Ahmed, Four Lions) is the wealthy son of a property developer. When he takes up managing a resort at his father's request, he meets Trishna at a dance and their fates cross. Jay finds every opportunity to win Trishna's affection and she accepts his efforts with shy curiosity. But when the two move to Mumbai and become a couple, Jay's deep family bond threatens the young lovers' bliss. Based on Thomas Hardy's classic novel Tess of the D'Ubervilles, master filmmaker Michael Winterbottom's (A Mighty Heart, the Trip) latest film is a powerful look at the tension between ancient privilege and modern equality, between codes of urban and rural life, and ultimately a hymn to both the glory and the tragedy that comes with beauty in all it's forms.

Beautiful....
This is one of the best Co Vid movies I've seen in a long time. It plays out beautifully. It really made me feel, and I'm not one for sappy, romantic movies. This movie really got to meI do not want to give it away.

Good Movie You Never Saw
Excellent movie! I was surprised to learn it was an interpretation of Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Frieda Pinto is such a good actress! I liked the music as well, very nicely done.

trash
don't waste your time you will never get it back. This movie made the chick on slumdog millionaire loose a lot of credibility.

Loved watching the Indian Culture
I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the cinematography was beautiful and the caste system is very interesting to me.This movie kept me completely interested, so I gave it 3 stars. However, I was a little disappointed in the lack of character development with Trishna. I understand the director may have done this for a reason, but this made the ending quite unbelievable for me.

It was ok , needed more dialogue and communication between them concerning their feelings. The only time they did that was when they were in bed when she told him about her abortion. The sex over whelmed her expression of her feelings. She was too stoic & he was a sex & drug maniac. But the scenes & traveling were nice

Love it
I just love this movie, the setting, the sequence, storyline. The actors and actress play it so well, not all that singing every minutes after a scene is done. location to where the movie was made, is lovely. To see the beauty of the county from village life to city life

Trishna a.k.a. Freida Pinto gone wild.
I purchased this film only because I saw the trailer in a documentary I was watching (and I watch a lot of docs). I like well made foreign films (Sawariya, 200 Pound Beauty, A Very Long Engagement) so I thought I would give this a try.Film is garbage. The first 55 minutes seems to be setting the stage for the rest of the movie, but then the majority o that stuff doesn't have much influence on later sequences. The editing seemed slow and at times was cutting to new scenes in the story timeline, that looked just like the past scenes. Example, cuts of the two lovers in each others arms in the bed, or cuts of her at work over the course of days... it was like they were trying to create time by recycling footage instead of shooting new footage or at least using a different camera angle. Some of the dialogue seemed sloppily improvised too like when he's talking with his father or when his friends (who seem to add nothing to the story) bid him adieu.Too many little themes going on that never get finished. The only consistent theme is that this chick is playing the harlot, knowing that she's doing wrong, but stays in that situation instead of just running away like she keeps doing. This film is probably good for unmarried young men who are overly eager to lose their virginity. The backdrop of India didn't even make me feel like I was watching a culturally Indian story. Buy this movie so perhaps one day Freida Pinto will have enough money to support her family and not have to play these roles.
