Grave Digger, along with bands like Running Wild, Rage, Sinner, and early Helloween spearheaded the Teutonic Metal scene in Germany in the early eighties. The title track from their iconic debut 'Heavy Metal Breakdown', as well as “Headbanging Man” were some the first anthems showcased in this groundbreaking new era of Metal. Charismatic frontman Chris Boltendahl, core and figurehead of the band since the very beginning left his mark with his unique vocal style on each and every release since. This new compilation, 'Exhumation – the early years', presents a new take on the band's classic recordings in a wistful look back to the eighties. Focusing beyond their debut and subsequent hit albums like 'Witch Hunter' and 'War Games', with new takes on classic favorites such as “Shoot Her Down” the unforgettable opening track from the first Grave Digger demo from 1982! Also included is “Stand Up And Rock” from 1987's 'Stronger Than Ever', which was released under the cross-over attempted band name “Digger” (now a rare and highly sought after edition). In addition, the release includes "My Private Hell Morning" and "Young And Dangerous" two bonus tracks and the first new songs since last year's 'Return Of The Reaper' teasing what is to come from the band's upcoming 2016 new studio album!

Hard stomping heavy metal!
This band simply stomps! Excellent riffs, clean leads, and I love the singer's vocals. I know this is a German band, but the singer must be Scottish. So far I have yet to hear a song by this band I didn't like.

Classic Metal
Grave Digger exhumes some songs from their early 80's beginnings and it works beautifully. This is a heavy metal/speed metal classic.

These guys and Trance were the German heavy metal scene before the Scorpions. Bu this now. Highly recommended.

Naissance de GRAVE DIGGER
Un album mixé en 2015 reprenant les meilleurs titres des 4 premiers albums sorties dans les années 1980 .Comme d'habitude le groupe joue a la perfection .Malgré le fait que pour moi les débuts du "fossoyeur " furent un peu poussif jusqu'en 1986.Les titres sont bons mais se ressemblent un peu sur la longueur .Personnellement je préfère la période 1993 / 2012 qui fut beaucoup plus prolifique en termes de hits .Mais le travaille de réenregistrement est de qualité .Bon CD a ranger dans sa collection de GRAVE.

The Early Years - waren eh die Sahneschnitten von Grave Digger
Songauswahl wunderbar zusammengestellt, neu produziert. Na gut, die Kreisch-Reibeisenstimme von Chris Boltendahl hat denüber 30 Jahren etwas Tribut gezollt, die war damals etwas schneidender. Aber bei den alten Hymnen von der "Heavy Metal Breakdown","Witchhunter" oder "War Games" kriegt man noch feuchte Augen. Da ist wieder der Moment da in der Studentenbude, als mandie LP ("Heavy Metal Breakdown") vom guten Kumpel auf Kassette überspielt hat (Osten - nix Laden gehen und mal eben kaufen...)und sich gefreut hat wie ein Schneekönig. Live sind Grave Digger auch noch gut drauf, spielen sich noch richtig den Arsch ab. (Letztes Jahr, Riffelhof Burgrieden - bloß schade, die Band gab alles, aber Publikum: auch viel satte, gelangweilte Wohlstandsbürger.....die würde ein Erdbeben auch nicht mehr aufwecken....)
