Many bands were bringing international influences into rock in the early '70s, but no one fused funk, Afro-Cuban jazz and rock quite like Osibisa. Sophisticated horn arrangements, driving bass lines, African chants, tribal beats this 1973 LP is one of Osibisa's best: Take Your Trouble Go; Bassa Bassa; Happy Children; Fire, and more!

Happy Children, Happy customer
Repertoire Records (UK) did great to bring this album back for CD release. I have had Happy Children by Osibisa since 1974 after it was released in 1973, on vinal. I also have a couple of others by the band, but this is truly their best work. If you are going to own just one Osibisa, then Happy Children you must have. Every track is stacked with music that tells of a unique form of cris-cross in percusion rythem that is performed by brilliant African musicians. The CD also has a wee booklet that tells the Osibisa story that vinal did not have. All tracks are fantastic and my main choice is 'Fire'. Once again, many thanks to Amazon.Shamus.Tasmania, Australia

Afro / Jazz beat at its Best
Happy Children is not a new recording but it is for me a classic as it has elements of Jazz, African rock, Afro beat dance and some traditional "bush" music. Very nice sounding studio recording also. Check out some of Osibisa's other music. They even did a Super Fly movie soundtrack that was pretty nice.

A lost sound from a far away time.
Osibisa. Crisis cross rhythms that explode with Happiness. They are going to start the vibe, early one morning in the heart of Africa! Get ready get set, musical mayhem. Strong and powerful. A group of the past that was on time and ahead at the same instant.

Outstanding funk rock!
I had this album in high school. A friend of mine saw them play live and recommended I check it out, and this album is a little known classic. When I bought a conga drum I worked out on it to Osibisa. "Is everybody ready? Ready, ready, ready? Beautiful children, ready?! AH HA, LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!":D

Excellent fusion of funk, rock and African styles
This album is quite different from their first 3 efforts, which were darker, the arrangements and songwriting somewhat simpler. The production on Happy Children is sparkling and very modern-sounding, and the playing and arrangements first-rate. The earlier efforts have a 70's sound, but this one is timeless. A must-have, along with the first three and also Osibirock. I was very pleased to see these albums released on CD. My vinyl was in rough shape because these albums were always hard to find, so a scratched, warped version of this was all I had for years.
