Great Book 1 of the Epic Trilogy of Alexander the Great by Manfredi
Manfredi is a classical archaeologist, and noted historian that works the lecture circuitbut currently teaches at the University of Milan. This is not the definitive historicalwork on Alexander and not meant to be, but he gets most of what is known and tries to fill in theholes with qualified speculation and various accepted theory. Manfredi knows howto put things in perspective and put words together in such a way its hard to put the book down.

Welcome to history
I found this book abandoned at an airport. It seemed like a good read. After I got sucked into it the man sitting next to me advised me I was reading an historical novel. I couldn't put it down until I finished it and immediately got the sequel, and the next sequel. I have been reading Manfredi's books ever since and refer my friends to him often.

History in novel format
Good historical fiction piece, although I'm not sure I'll make it through the rest of the series. Might just be the timing of coming on to this book which was recommended by a friend, so maybe I'll circle back to it later when I have more time and taste for historical pieces.

The story unfolds in excellent detail
Manfredi begins with the life of Alexander, and weaves a genuinely intriguing story of fact mixed with fiction. I did not ever read a perspective of Alexander the Great with such enjoyment- this historical novel is worth reading and keeping.

Beautiful story-telling!
There are many books on Alexander the Great, and I have read as many as possible. Without hesitation I can recommend Manfredi's book as the best I have yet encountered.

Manfredi's Imaginings
There isn't enough left of Alexander's life to be able to flesh out his childhood this thoroughly. What Manfredi has done is taken information of what life might have been like for a "barbarian" king's son being raised to be an acceptable Greek of that time. What Manfredi has fantasized is a good read. The timeline feels a bit screwy too. Read a good history of Alexander first to get a good grounding in what we do know about Alexander's life, then read this fairy tale. It's a good fantasy.

No Kindle version of Alexander trilogy
I wonder why these well-regarded books are not available in Kindle format. Note that I give this book five stars even though I haven't read it; I am confident that it will deserve all those stars when the Kindle version FINALLY comes into being.
