Hand And Forearm Exercises: Grip Strength Workout And Training Routine

What a surprise - Great Book!
I just finished reading (and then practicing some of the suggested exercises) Patrick Barrett's Hand and Forearm exercises. I have to agree with the previous reviewer - I was skeptical about the usefulness of the subject matter and really thought I had no problems with hand strength or my manual dexterity as a result.Instead, I found that Patrick provided some compelling reasons for and examples of hand/forearm strength being VERY important. (I thought of a few others even...) As a result, I decided to implement some of his exercises right now. Boy - was I surprised! My fingers, wrists and forearms were really feeling the burn after just the first 3 exercises. A little later I tried some of the others and realized that this is really something I need to work on. The book was really short and to the point - considering that I don't have a lot of time, I appreciate that alot.I think Patrick's hit upon a subject and a exercise style that really speaks to me - a regular person with a regular (rather sedentary) job and has given me some good tools to improve my hand and forearm strenth. I also think that he provides accessible methods and tools that allow someone like me to start improving myself immediately. You should read this too.

Got A Few New Ideas For My Money
I enjoyed reading thru this. First note it's more a pamphlet than a book, tho it is bound like a book, so don't expect a volume. He does present some interesting ideas, some I hadn't seen and things you can do at home, like a towel roll. Many require some sort of "equipment", e.g. a sledge hammer, but you can improvise. Even a heavy rod will do the trick. I was pleased to see he doesn't waste space on the exercises we all know, like wrists rollers with dumbbells. At one point he does have you creating a block weight by taking a hacksaw to a hex dumbbell. One can also use a hex dumbbell in a gym and accomplish the same thing by grasping the end of the dumbbell and by tieing on some of those little 2 and 3 pound dumbbells the women use to give you weights in between what your gym has. Anyway if you are a real exercise fan this is well worth the $7.50 or whatever it was to get a few new angles on exercises.

Really? A Workout for your hands .... It really works ...
I was a little skeptical at first about a book centered on strengthening your hand and forearm .... but I am so happy I read this great book. I work a lot on the computer and noticed over the past few years losing strength in my hands and arms. This book is perfect to address the issues of strengthening a key part of our body that does so much and so essential to daily living. The author offers greats exercises and stretching techniques that I can use in my busy life including pictures to show you exactly how to do the exercises. He also recommends inexpensive equipment to use in order to really get a good workout routine that won't `break the bank'. I really like this book and will be recommending it to my friends. Several of the exercise I have tried are already helping in strengthening my hands and arms. Thanks Patrick!

Good for the price -- seems like a good guy
He never said he's a professional physical therapist or scientist (like Jim Johnson is) and his writing style is plain conversational English. It's self-published rather unsophisticated format and photos. Reading, it, you come to really like him, and appreciate that he's sincere and helpful. He is right. We really should be exercising our hands more!

Very Good Book on Grip Strengthening
I recently bought the Kindle version of this book and am nearly done reading it using the Kindle app on my iphone. It's a great little book that provides an excellent introduction to grip strengthening. The author explains numerous exercises that work your hands and forearms with more than half of the exercises requiring either no equipment or simple things that nearly everyone has (a broom, a towel, a hammer). The book covers warm-up and stretching, numerous exercises and basic programs for putting it all together. It's an easy read and a great value at the Kindle price (about $5).

Gave me some great ideas!
I blasted through this book VERY fast. It is short and to the point. The thing I liked most about the book was where the author was showing how you could cut the ends off of dumbbells and do swings/presses with them kind of like a kettlebell. Wow what a grip workout! Very awesome idea. If the kettlebell fad ever goes away, and my bells rust all to hell, I'll have a good alternative. :D

Alright so far
I bought this book to go with the hand gripper for my husband. He hasn`t really gotten into but he said when he skimmed through it. It looked pretty good.

Different to the normal exercises!
I really quite like this book, its almost got a more personal feel to it with some unique training moves with a difference! In some ways it has a Rocky feel to it, can imagine a young Sly Stallone using these methods. The book is not a thick by any means but is pretty easy reading with a few pictures and enough information (couple of hours reading at most and then use it as a reference guide.) Would have liked to have seen more photo's but not worth giving it any less stars. One thing I would say is really warm up for the exercises and take it easy to start with as hands and forearms are easy to damage (from experience).

Basic info
The information in this book is basic. The exercises are quite known to you already if you go to the gym.
