Heats & cooks quickly!
We’d bought this square rocket stove last fall, but never tried it until yesterday. What fun! We’d decided to use it for dinner while out running errands. From the time we got home, ( I started a timer for baking potatoes, so I used that to tell how long the whole process took) until our chicken cutlets were ready to eat, was 40 min! Hubby went in to get the stove, bring it out, grab some cement blocks we had laying around to stack it on. I gathered twigs and small branches & fire starters (fat wood & lighter) while hubby got it out of the box for the first time, unwrapped it & looked at instructions and assembled it. It was pretty easy assembly, but as someone else mentioned, it would be nice if there was a way to prevent the leg pins from being able to slide out either way. Ours was completely clean, black & looked brand new. So all the people who got theirs with dirt or soot, probably did get used ones.I had seen videos in the past of how rocket stoves work, so I showed hubby that after placing the divider in, you put your firestarter & fuel in the larger, upper part & leave the bottom area for air flow. He got the fire started quickly. We only used twigs & small branches from our yard, which is what we love about this! And we only used a large handful or two total. While he got the fire going, I floured 3 cubed chicken breasts and put bacon grease in a 10 inch cast iron skillet and we set it on the stove to heat the oil. Once it was melted, hubby thought the oil was hot enough and had me put 2 of the chicken breasts on. It wasn’t quite ready cause they didn’t sizzle. I put a lid on to help hold the heat in, cause it was chilly & breezy. It heated up quickly and in probably 5-6 minutes the chicken was done! I removed the 2 and added more grease & cooked the 3rd piece of chicken. (These were cubed /tenderized by the butcher, so they do cook fairly quickly anyway).Using the cast iron, the chicken cooked perfectly & browned without burning. The pan was very stable on the burner, although I was a little nervous of it tipping. But it felt good & stable & level. Level will depend on the surface you set up on.We chose to put a cookie sheet under it before setting up, to protect our surface as well as catch ashes that fall out the bottom. The fire started well, and did smoke for a few minutes until it got going very hot. Then there was almost no smoke, other than a few whisps coming out the glowing embers at the grate. The bag is made well and ITS ROOMY! I love how the pieces were made to nest in the largest tube! And the whole thing sets down in the carry/storage bag with room to put a few things. I put a box of matches & a few more fatwood sticks in there to have on hand if we take it on a picnic or something. We did have a little trouble figuring out this morning (after it cooled) how to get the upper chimney off the main body. The directions did not explain this and we couldn’t remember exactly how it fastened after we set in. Hubby finally figured out to slide the chimney stack up the body to get it off.Other than that, the main negatives are waiting for it to cool before packing it up (I’m afraid pouring cold water on it would crack or warp it in some way) and cleaning the soot off! My hands were filthy after disassembling & packing it in the case.Overall, we love this little stove! Wished we’d had it when we used to camp a lot! Can’t wait to do some cooking on it with the grandkids!

Great price and works great!
The media could not be loaded. Athough the price is cheap price, it does not reflect the quality of this awesome rocket stove. I use presoaked (mineral spirits) oak or fatwood to start, and supply fuel. Works great and cooks fast! This stove only requires a handful of wood to cook. Stove is very sturdy and well built. I built a small stand out of salvage 2x4's which is bolted to a baking pan to catch ash, which we discard in the garden bed. A+ prep stove, which we very highly recommend. A+

This thing is great!!
The media could not be loaded. This seems like a great quality product. I created a fire with sticks from a fallen branch and I could have cooked breakfast for several people. Not good for backpacking, as it is heavy, but great for camping and winter camping when you are worried about propane tanks freezing. Functional and practical…. I would cook with high heat oil as this thing runs hot! Highly recommend this product.

Quick assembly and well made
I really heated mine up thinking if it was going to warp then I wanted that now not later but it did not. It all comes apart and fits in the one square tubing piece. Very smart design. I will say it doesn’t pull air in as much as others but that may be due to the vertical stack being not quite as tall as other rocket stoves. The simple fact of how well it folds and that it is made w pretty heavy square tubing I would recommend this and may even buy another for cooking two things at once. I have told others about it and don’t do that if I don’t think something is well made. The only real complaint I would say is given it needs to be turned towards prevailing wind to function at optimal the legs could come off if you were turning it under load or when hot. But they lock in sort of so it’s not a big concern given the durability of their stove.

THE BEST
I literally bought this thing like five years ago and I’m only just now getting to the review. It’s amazing. It is so worth it. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made for our hiking and camping adventures. This thing is going to last so many lifetimes.

Great fire pit replacement!
The media could not be loaded. I've got a little bit of experience with fire pits, and wanted something more contained because I have VERY curious kids. This definitely meets that mark.Pros:+ Keeps the fire contained.+ Conserves wood.+ You can still roast marshmallows.+ I have a cast iron griddle I can throw on top to cook what ever on.+ Pretty much levels on anything.+ When there is flames, this thing becomes smoke free.+ You can pack it up into a small package.+ Assembly is a breeze. You could blow on it and it would assemble itself.Cons:- No opening covers for the front or the rear. This would assist in burn control.- No included fire poker. You can make a stout stick work though.- Angle of the fire feeding chute not steep enough to be "auto feeding".Other thoughts:I wanted something to give a decent camping experience to my kids while keeping the fire mostly contained. As stated above, this fit the bill. Just have to angle it into the wind ish, add some type of starter, add some sticks and light. I am using split up non-pressure treated pallets in the picture. But have used twigs, sticks, larger fallen branches cut or broken into foot long ish pieces (8-14 inches), and scrap 2X4 members sawed into 3> briquettes. Burns great! Dispite the flaws, I would buy it again and have considerd buying another for even burning under my cast iron griddle.
