The best of Martin Parr
One of the best works by Martin Parr, with his ironic view of tourism and the people around the world. It's easy to feel the funny of his photos and his particulary point of view, in a great book.

Small world, small concept
i expected a little more from martin parr, i have seen better from him, more concentrated it too much of a bit of everything.

Overpriced Book
The book has fair quality in terms of presentation, however, the photographs are not the greatest. The author has better books, therefore, I don't recommend the book for its visuals. It is an overpriced book. As a concept is great but as a collector's item, not the best one to own.

Travel broadens the mind?
Having never been much of a traveller I have always had a nagging feeling that I was missing out on the broadening of the mind said to result from it. Looking at Martin Parr's photographs in this book I needn't have worried. Most of the travellers appear to have a mental horizon that ends at the rim of the baseball cap that many of them wear. The photos are savagely satirical in many cases but are offset by an engaging humour. Some of them are hilarious and in many cases I laughed out loud when I saw them. Particular favourites are the back of a baseball-capped man's head facing the Sphinx. The cap is turned trendily backwards and has the word 'BOY' in almost obscene prominence across the front. A similar photo shows a baseball-capped man from behind photographing Notre Dame cathedral. This cap has 'New York Yankees' emblazoned across the front, complete with baseball bat logo. Or my personal favourite: the trendy Japanese tourist in sunshades complete with camera in front of Stonehenge. He is walking hurriedly away from the structure seemingly having taken his 'snaps' while a New Age tourist looks on in disgust, though the New Ager is also obscenely kitted out in all the coarse trappings of the tourist. So the book draws attention to the banality and cheapening of experience resulting from globalisation. I'm no expert on photography or photographers but for sheer hilarity this book is a must.

notevole
sguardi profondi, con l'occhio di un grandissimo fotografo che ha saputo cogliere un legame comune tra i molti aspetti del turismo mondiale.
