I hesitated writing this review, as some may think this kind of collar is cruel. Let me ease your mind. You get more shock from putting on your wool socks in the morning than this thing delivers even at it's highest setting. I tested it on myself. All it does is enough of a tingle to get the dog's attention, but I don't use it at it's highest setting. We have it set very low where all it does is beep, and that's enough to break his concentration on whatever is making him bark - which is usually our neighbors in their back yard. And that's the only reason I got this as I felt uncomfortable at how he barked at them every time.However, he knows when it's on, when it's not he still barks his head off. So note that if your dog is smart he'll probably figure this out too.One quibble: the buttons should be recessed so they aren't accidentally bumped. I've noticed the settings changed sometimes as he has bumped the buttons somehow. The way they are now is too easy to press.

I ordered this collar because our Jack Russell tends to continuously bark when anyone comes in. Since getting this collar, he no longer barks!! I simply put it on him prior to anyone's arrival, and he greets them rather than barking. He learned very quickly that it "bites" him if he barks, so he doesn't. Of course, I have to know ahead of time that I need to put it on him or I can't get it on him, but that usually isn't a problem. I just hate to make him wear it all the time, or I would leave it on him. I hate to wear a bra, so why make him wear a collar, right???Update: I still love my collar and our dog doesn't bark at all when I put it on him. As a matter of fact, I rarely have to put it on him as he has stopped barking so much!! Great product!!Nov. 2016 Update: This collar is so easy to use and my dog is really responsive to it. I wish I had had it years ago!!UPDATE: After a few months with this collar, I am even more impressed with it!! We had overnight company, and by using the collar for the first couple of hours, I was able to remove it and he didn't bark at all. When he does anything wrong, like chasing the cat, I just say "Collar" and he stops immediately. This collar is worth every penny!!

This bark collar worked great -- before it malfunctioned and tortured our dog for 2 hours nonstop. After returning from a golfing trip, we discovered our dog with tears dried on his face while the collar shocked him non-stop and he cowered next to us waiting for us to help him. We heard the electric crackling sound of the collar shocking him and didn't know what it was until we unbuckled it from his neck and realized it was coming from the collar. We pressed the buttons trying to get it to turn off, and it did not. We eventually removed the battery, reinstalled the battery, and it instead made a high-pitched shrieking noise non-stop. Needless to say -- we are fkng pissed and insanely upset about this. Wtf kind of device does this?! We immediately regret our decision to test this bark collar on him and STRONGLY ADVISE you to look elsewhere for something more humane. We love our dog. A small shocking buzz to get him to stop barking is okay with us, but not something that electrocutes him non stop for no reason.

***Review for new version ***The new version seems to be very similar but has an LCD display for the level and comes with two batteries instead of one. I like these upgrades. However, it does not seem to come with an NCF tag as advertised and it can still be set off be a dog a few feet away barking. I think dealing with the sensitivity issue would have been better than adding an LCD display.***REVIEW FOR OLD VERSION***After posting my initial review, I was contacted by the seller who offered me a full refund without having to ship the product back. I am very pleased with their customer service.I have a Doberman puppy who likes to bark at dogs she doesn't know as well as when she is playing. Her bark is very loud and intimidating, so I am trying to get her to bark less. I like the fact that this collar gives two auditory warnings and then progresses through the shock levels. This is a great way to teach them that they can bark once or twice but that excessive barking is not ok. The battery lasted for over a month and is cheap to replace. However, even on the lowest sensitivity setting, this collar will occasionally activate when she lies down (if her neck hits a hard surface), shakes her head, etc. I have been able to get around this problem (for the most part) by only putting the collar on her when we are outside.

This isn't the most reliable on (1) picking up only barking noises from the dog wearing it and (2) recognizing the barking to react. The collar also keeps coming loose, it won't hold to a certain length, so we've had to tape it to try and keep it from loosening up on our dog.We got this because our two dogs like to play in the early morning before we get up. One of our dogs is the main noisemaker, and will bark at all sorts of things. What's nice about this collar is it gives "warning" beeps before it shocks, and you do have settings to choose. However, on several occasions when our dog would shake, her tags on her collar would make noise that cause the collar to give her a warning beep. Or when our dogs are playing, if neither of them are barking but our other dog makes some noise, it beeps again. In those cases I've just taken the collar off.On the other hand, when she is barking, this collar doesn't always pick it up and warn her. Some mornings she'll just bark and bark, and I never hear the thing beep. It's better than nothing, but there are probably better products out there.
