Make: Technology on Your Time Volume 32 Paperback – November 6, 2012

Love this magazine, it has great ideas and projects for my husband and kids. It is however very expensive to order a subscription so I always buy them from Amazon to save a few dollars (:

Make: Technology on Your Time Volume 32 has do it yourself industrial design as the focus subject for this issue. As always, the book is full of examples and how to articles. There are 23 DIY projects ranging from constructing a food smoker to creating a laminar flow water fountain.I enjoyed the article on the Nellie Bly Smoker. Having used a Weber Smokey Mountain smoker this year it was good to read about constructing another device. The article on the flying motorcycle / gyro-copter was quite enjoyable. Perhaps one day I will get to experience the real thing should the prototypes work out. The article on the laminar flow water fountain was another of my favorites. This project would be something I could tackle in the shop with a confidence that success would be a possibility.I always enjoy the release of an new issue of Make: Technology on Your Time. This issue featured a new format that was pleasing. The book always has a breadth of articles that I find interesting. If you are a person that likes to build things, then Make is definitely a book you should read.Disclosure: I received a free e-book copy for review purposes.

I bought this thinking it was a modern day version of Practical Mechanics i.e. lots of 'how to' and 'how things work' but felt a bit disappointed with the content. It seems to be weirdly pitched at the group somewhere between child, idiot child and child genius with a few articles that could be aimed at adults!? For example, there is the cover story about putting a home made satellite into low orbit (probably not into an actual orbit) for a mere $8000 (how much!) and by comparison, the 'build your own satellite' article which is basically a digital camera tied to a couple of tethered helium filled balloons. How lame is that! Also you are shown how to make your own wonky shaped buttons from an old stick. Does anyone still sew buttons back on anymore and how much do they actually cost anyway? Etc, etc.I think this would make a great teachers' resource for project ideas in school or a subscription for a child protege but is really of only passing interest to adults. I was going to subscribe but I don't think I will. Might be good to pass the time at the dentist.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was put together and the articles were certainly inspiring, however it also made me realise how much cheaper the material for these projects is in the US, especially if you have to import them :-(

Make: Technology on Your Time Vol 32 - Always an engaging read with many good project ides at all skill levels.

This is a really interesting science.I thought it would be aimed at children but it if adults. I love it
