Black Beauty: 50 Years of Medieval Archaeology, 1957-2007

No plain textual book that will convey the story as well as this comic book. In this 86 year's old memory.

I purchased this for a child living abroad whose English is good,but would find even the easier versions of Anne Sewell's storydifficult to trawl through.The pictures with sentences make excellent 'reading' for a childwhose 1st language isn't English.I've previously bought Oliver Twist in this series for the samereason & to become acquainted with the storyline before seeing themusical.

Good comic version of the book.Bought to encourage my neice to read the proper book. Good illustrations.

Anna Sewell's classic novel "Black Beauty" was first published in 1877 and is still a favorite among young readers and horse lovers. Classics Illustrated has produced a highly readable adaptation in graphic novel format."Black Beauty" is the story of a beautiful black horse, as related by the horse itself. Black Beauty has a long career as a riding horse, a work horse, and a carriage horse. The author meant to use her novel to emphasis the importance of proper treatment of animals; Beauty's human owners alternate between kind, careless, and even cruel in a Victorian England in which horses were still a primary means of transportation. The artwork is simple but effective; the storyline is easy to follow and quite moving in places. Highly recommended, even in used condition.

I remember these from 50 years ago. (yikes!) Now that my grandchildren have started reading, I was really excited to see that the Classics Illustrated is in print again. I will be purchasing a lot of these. This is a great introduction to classic literature. I know that for me these books are not shortcuts. They introduced me to amazing stories that I would eventually, as my reading skills progressed, go on to read the full length versions.
