He was a legend unlike any other. After years of making movies, Elvis made a triumphant return to the stage, including a stint of celebrity-packed shows at the International Hotel in Las Vegas in 1970. Now, see the backstage footage -- from rehearsals to relaxing at the hotel -- and the performances in one of the most intimate looks at Elvis captured on film. Included here are both the 1970 theatrical version (DVD - 108 mins.) and the 2001 special edition (Blu-ray - 95 mins.), with the songs, the fans, the love and most of all...the King himself.

Great Documentary of Elvis Presley
I purchased this through Prime. The documentary recounts Elvis's Summer Festival in Las Vegas during 1970. This was the start of his residency at the International Hotel, 1969-1976, and marked the beginning of a comeback for his career. The film provides a lot of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from various people to include fans. It displays the talent and culture of Elvis and his band, and shows us how he struggled with aphonia. The behind the scenes part lasts for 44 minutes, and you get an hour of him performing on stage at the hotel in Vegas. It was filmed during 1970 so it never goes off track and it never becomes offensive. It's a must have for all Elvis Fans.

Exciting moment in music history capturing Elvis at his peak
The two disc combination of MGM's "That's The Way It Is" provides both the original theatrical release produced by Denis Sanders (DVD) and the re-edited special edition produced by Ernst Jorgensen and film archivist Rick Schmidlin (BluRay). While some moments are recaptured in the special edition, gone are the bizarre fan interviews in favor of more music and more Elvis. The documentary reveals Elvis at the height of his career (and likely health). While he would continue to provide many moments of greatness over the course of the remaining 7 years of his life, the physicality and energy of his performances started to wane and there is a noticeable difference in this regard only 2 years later in what I consider to be the companion MGM documentary "Elvis On Tour". My only issue with Special Edition of TTWII is the omission of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "I Just Can't Help Believing". I'm also holding out some hope that Baz Lurhmann (who claims to have access to all unused MGM footage) is able to produce a redux edition of TTWWII including even more rehearsal and performances. Much of this we can find on Youtube but the footage is in need of serious remastering. I recommend a viewing of both discs of TTWII to get a full experience as they are practically two different films. I also recommend "Elvis On Tour".

Cases
I wish this was two separate cases. I wish it was only the Blu-ray only and let it be the DVD only I did not need the DVD because I had that already. Like I said, I wish it was the Bluray only.

Elvis: A Must Have
I love Elvis. What more can I say? This shows Elvis at the peak of his sexiness; healthy and oh-so-talented. Over forty years ago and the material is still entertaining and fresh. I have seen many many concerts. It has always amazed me how Elvis could hold an audience's attention with just himself on stage and only minimal backup from his backup singers and band. Other entertainers needed flamboyant fireworks, glitzy backdrops, scantily clad dancers, etc. I was blessed to have attended two of his concerts in the early 70's and there was a reason why the announcer always said at the end of his shows " Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis has left the building. Thank you and Good Night." Otherwise there would have been a stampede of people climbing up onto the stage to go after him. Let me try and explain. Elvis always gave his all at his performances, often going over the expected amount of time. At one of the concerts, as much as I was enjoying it, I noticed that the performance was going well over thirty five minutes over the allotted time. I glanced over at some of his backup singers to see how they were faring wondering if maybe they may be in need of a pee break or something. Elvis was still going strong. But no, they were intent on focusing their complete attention on their boss who was single handedly orchestrating the entire show. Elvis commandeered the show, setting the pace and tempo throughout. He decided how long the show was and when it was over. Elvis had a way of noticing things like when an audience member (myself) might be in a little bit of danger of being crushed by other over exuberant fans trying to clamor over her in an effort to get closer to see Elvis. Elvis was not above stopping singing and effectively stopping the entire show to gently and humorously admonish the offenders. It left me in awe that he noticed and he cared and he actually did something about it. I still think of that day. It was things like this that made him more than an entertainer. By the end of the show, when I and the rest of the audience realized that he had left the stage and wasn't coming back out, I had a sudden urge to go after him and drag, pull or coax him back out. It was as if "No, he can't just leave. He was just getting started." Then just when I'm preparing to get my purse and go after him, the announcer makes that announcement and I suddenly realize he's already gone so therefore there is nothing I can do. So I sit in stunned disbelief and try to concentrate on my clapping.
