I’m a fan
This book was slow and boring it actually didn’t get interesting to me until about 100 something pages in… however, I loved this book after the long drawn out parts. It’s a must read.

A timeless book that captures an unremarkable and phenomenal African American coming-of-age story.
I give this book a five star for capturing an unremarkable and phenomenal African American coming-of-age story. The book ‘FLYY GIRL’ by Omar Tyree follows Tracy Ellison from her sixth birthday party in 1977 to her 17th birthday while she experience’s the generous, hip-hop 1980s as well as the effects of the cocaine economy that flourishes in black communities in Philadelphia. Tracy is a pretty and intelligent but sassy mouth young lady who is also boy crazy, and I was able to watch as her physical maturation leads to increasing sexual activity and how her mental maturation grew throughout the book. Tyree not only captures black language as it is spoken among the people Tracy encounters but also the essence of Philadelphia. Tyree’s description of fast girls was spot on. And the conversation of teenagers caught in a highly pressured sexual atmosphere who were practicing the sexuality before they were old enough only furthered the real like feel of the book. As a reader, a teenager and a native to Philadelphia, I couldn’t help but feel as if I was in the book as if I lived around the corner from Tracy. I not only connected with each character through Tyree’s brief but excellent descriptions but I connected with each situation presented upon Tracy which takes place in my community every day. Even though the book took place in the unique perspective of life of the 80’s, it could easily be turned around to reflect 21st century views which makes the book so timeless.

Pretty good
**Audiobook Review**The narrator was ok. This is a classic that I never got around to reading. I decided to listen to the audiobook and it was pretty good. I enjoyed listening to Tracy and her friends grow up. There were some good things for teenagers to hear. Overall I could see why it is considered a classic. Worth reading/listening. It was a bit long. Not sure if I'm interested in the next book though.

A classic…reread
This is my second time reading this book. The first time when I was a teen and now in my 40s. I will say my perspective of the story is different now vs then. I also thinks I looked at it this time like Tracy was my daughter instead of her being me and it changed a lot how I felt about the characters and the book. 3.5/4

Wished
I wish it was longer but thats my problem with any book I read nowadays. The story is never long enough because I read them so fast. Over all great book though

Love love love this Book
Such an interesting read. It’s definitely a page turner. I enjoy how the author express each character actions and also the event scenery. I feel like I’m watching a movie just imagining how things take place. I love this book! Made me reminisce on my younger days growing up and watching how young girls acted like grown women lol. But yeah! Awesome book. I’m planning on reading part two and I been hoping that after all theses years since this book was written, where is the movie????????

Very good read
I'm definitely past the coming of age stage that this book is based around but this was a good read, it shows how fast young girls grow up and the influences that surround them at home and environmentally. It's just an overall good read especially for black girls.
