Brain Building Fun
This was purchased for a 12 year old that has an interest in building, as well as technology.Couldn't have made a better choice. The pieces pop out and he was off and running. His 10 year old sister joined but in my opinion it was a bit advanced if she tried putting it together alone. Great for parent child bonding.

A little difficult for an 8 yr old
This is not an easy robot for an 8 year old to put together. I would say this would be geared for more in the 9 or 10 age range. It took about 2 hours of adult time just to cut apart all of the pieces, sand down the edges, put them in the separate baggies (which was a great feature) and get the solar panel assembled. Once all that was done however, it took constant adult supervision (with the adult doing most of the assembly with my 8 year old). I think it will be fun and educational now that the time consuming part is done, and being able to make 12 different robots will keep him busy for hours. Just be prepared that in my opinion, it will take constant adult supervision for a just turned 8 year old. This was also a little smaller than I thought it would be. Not a complaint, just an observation. I think over time, this will be a great educational tool but for now it was pretty frustrating.

Great for adults too!
I bought this for my dad because he has been very bored lately. We took it out of the box and started assembling it together. It's a great way to spend quality time! After about an hour, we had only gotten the mechanism together and the head on.. so yes, it will occupy time. LOLIf you don't get the motor and gears in correctly, it will not work and you will have to take it apart and start over. (some swearing may occur - lol)However, it is a really great feeling of accomplishment when it finally does run!

Delightful!
I got this for my son for his 10th birthday. He is enamored with it and has enjoyed the entire journey of robot making, from unpackaging to assembly. He really liked that it came with labels and baggies to store the components! Great for organization, and for learning how to keep a project organized. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that as I was getting ready to type this review, he showed up in our home office asking if his dad could weld one of the pieces that just broke. He is careful and not rough...so I'm hoping the rest of the assembly goes well and that it isn't too fragile to be practical for a middle-aged boy!

Fun STEM project
These project kits are an awesome way to shoe spatial relationship, instruction, energy and electronics theory to young builders. Safe to touch at any point throught the build, and solar powered for added wow factor. The one thing I wish, is that you didn't have to take the bots completely apart to build another one. They use the same components so some teardown is necessary, but it would be better if you could leave it half built to switch easily between one bot to another. Other than that, great product.

Makes you work for it!
I bought this for my 9 year old son who loves robots and tech! He was thrilled! On day one, however, it was very tedious cutting out all of the small pieces and storing them separately. It was great to find the bags that came with stickers to label which parts are in each bag. The instructions took a bit of time to figure out- wish they were color coded- but we eventually got it. I was not able to put the robot body together properly to make it work, but I am sure that was user error. I will have to go back and try to figure out what went wrong. This is not an easy toy. It takes patience and determination! It will be worth it once the solar panel gets working!

Prepare for some prep work before use
Bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas. He is used to putting complex Legos together so I thought there shouldn't be any issues with him assembling the robots. I was wrong. There are hundreds of parts that need to be clipped and sanded and organized before even starting. Very tedious and I wound up doing most of that. I did like the fact that organizational bags with labels were included so once that was done, you had a way of keeping track of all of your parts. Lego could learn something about thatHe also needed help putting the main body together. This is where the motor and gears reside. Lots of small parts and the instructions are not the clearest. Once that is done however, he took over and had lots of fun putting the various robots together. Besides the caveats mentioned above, would recommend for young aspiring engineers, techy kids.

Better options are available
I build Legos and other robots all the time with my kids. This toy came with one of the worst book of directions that I have ever seen. The part labeling is not clear. Many pieces are not sturdy enough for multiple builds and some of the builds are more complicated than a 10-12 yr old can handle on their own. There are much better options out there.
