Comfort To The Soul

In 2003, when this album was released, Popovic was cited as the next big thing in the blues world. Hailing from Yugoslavia, Popovic burst upon the scene to quite a bit of acclaim at the time. Although a blues album, Popovic obviously is also influence by jazz, rock, and R & B, all of which make their presence known on this album. I was actually a bit disappointed by this one. After checking out some of her live playing on YouTube this was the first studio album that I checked out. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I can't say that I was blown away by it. The first half of the album is rather pedestrian with clichéd lyrics and not enough guitar. It is not terrible by any means, but nothing that many other artists of this genre have not done before. The second half of the album is better and I think she really shines when she gets into more jazz oriented territory as on the instrumental "Navajo Moon" and the closing track tribute to Jaco Pastorious called "Jaco". Overall this is an ok album, but I think some of her other stuff is better. Still, this one seems to be highly regarded by fans, so maybe I don't know what I am talking about.

Love her voice and Musicianship of all musicians on this CD. I bought this CD for a friend. He Loves it!!!!!A bit to jumping , up beat, fast paced for my taste at the moment. I feel, the music we relate to, is dependenton what we are experiencing in our lives at the time. Joy, Stress, Etc. At this time in my life, This CD is not the music style I need. I do think Ms. Popovic is Great and the musicians are wonderful.My 4 stars are not the bottom line. The friend I bought this CD for would have given it a 5 Star.

Ana Popovic takes her music seriously - and you can feel it. No lame attempts to play the blues here, this is the real stuff.If you like the blues, you'll absolutely love this CD. You'll never hear an insincere note....and I'm talking guitar AND voice.This young lady has it...so get it.

This is a great album to listen to while traveling, at work, sitting around with friends or just working around my home.
