The Long and Winding Road (Bear, Otter and the Kid Chronicles Book 4)

It's good-bye. But I'm grateful I 'know' the resilient people in these books
This is the final book in the Bear, Otter and the Kid series. I loved every single word. I loved Bear's rambling, meandering, outrageously unrealistic monologues. I loved Otter's rock-solid assurances that everything will be okay. Loved watching the Kid grow. Grow out of some of his fear and panic and grow into a young man who is truly finding the place where he is a perfect fit. All the old friends and some new ones are here. There are real moments; real marriage problems and a hilarious struggle to figure out how to work through them.I love the writing style the author uses in these books. Very long monologues to short sentence fragments. The reuse of portions of the previous books (Otter's letter, Julie's letter, Kid and Otter's 'invitation' for Bear, etc.). I simply loved it all. I laughed many times. I cried many times. I breathed deeply (like Kid) when I was trying not to cry. This book has all the feels AND Bear changing his name to Valentino Valentine as well as Otter becoming a Mars-bound astronaut. JK, read the book.I noticed another review that said you didn't need to read the first 3 to 'get' this one. Well. Maybe. But if you were going to drive up the California coast, would you ignore the bulk of the journey, then soak in the last 3 miles and exclaim, "Wow, that was great!" You could. But you'd miss so much. Finally, I have to say: But, Tj! You could continue this! THERE COULD TOTALLY BE MORE. :)Thanks for these guys and their beautiful stories. I know you say no more. But I am kind of hoping we at least get to see some of these characters appear (even as a reference) in a future book. After all, even Gustavo Tiberius was mentioned in this series!

Not Ready to Say Goodbye to Bear and Otter
I have been putting off reading this book because I knew that once I finished I would be saying goodbye to Bear and Otter. I never imagined when I purchased the first book that I would grow to love these character, especially Otter (he's an all time favorite character now), so much. Klune's Bear, Otter, and The Kid Chronicles is a unique masterpiece. One that will hold you captive until you have finished it. I speak from experience. Every time I began reading a book from this series I could not put it down until it was finished. Of course, I want to beg for more, but this fourth and final book provides readers with an ending that the characters deserved. For some, the pacing might be slow at times or fast depending on which book you're reading, but I promise if you stick with it you will be more than pleased. The characters are very believebale which in my opinion is something authors struggle with in HEA books. They're usually over the top, love at first sight, and almost flawless. That is not the kind of characters you will find in the pages of this series. Yes, they have very sweet moments, they have a very strong love that began a long time ago, but the characters have flaws and they learn and grow together. If you have yet to do so I highly recommend purchasing the first book and joining Bear, Otter, and TY on their journey. Just make sure that you're prepared to laugh, possibly experience second-hand embarrassment from our MC Bear, compare every new man in your life to Otter (he's just the best okay), possibly cry at times, and find an overall sense of happiness with the characters when you see them grow before you begin reading. This is a series that I will read over and over and I can't wait to begin the journey again.

The end of an amazing journey!
In this last book in the series Bear, Otto and the Kid Chronicles the author, TJ Klune takes us on the last steps of a journey we have taken with a group of people we have come to love as if they were our own family. We have shared in their sorrows so deep we can feel it in our own chests but also their loves, triumphs and joy. This is one of those rare books where you keep checking to see how much is left, not because you want to get it over with but because you don’t want it to end! As I said in my review of the first book in the series, please, be sure to read the books in order and to read his “At First Sight Series” which has many of the secondary characters from this series in their own stories. TJ Klune has become one of my favorite authors with his skill at writing skillfully drawn characters and his precision. Again, may I say hats off to you, Sir, for allowing us the privilege of meeting Bear, Otter, the Kid, Creed, Anna, Dom, Corey/Kori and all the rest of their hodgepodge family and for allowing us to share their journey!

A FITTING WELL DESERVED END TO A HEART WARMING SERIES!
This is a fitting finale to a heart warming book filled with the rawness of living a life. I enjoyed the intermingling of other characters from previousbooks creating connecting threads. The background humor as well as the evolving developments of choices affecting relationships were realistic.I wasn't all fun but serious issues in how to deal with who we are and how to live with our eccentricities. I appreciated the fact that T J knows how to end a series and give a sense of closure. Generally, my memory was awakened with relevant references to past characters without having to think about it. Admittedly, there were a few gaps(couldn't recall the Dom/Ty relationship too well) , but I did get the gist of it. No, I did not feel like I had to go back to previous books to grasp a deeper understanding.( Not that I haven't reread some of TJ "s previous works just because...:)I hope that TJ keeps going with his creative juices. I am awaiting with anticipation for the third book of Tales From Verania ( coming out in September I believe). Also, just by chance if TJ is reading this review I am wondering if you would consider the second book on BURN. You still leftme hanging on that one. Keep on trucking TJ. You are doing a wonderful job of exploring the human condition and giving a sense of human interconnections.

Sad to see it end
I'm going to miss this family of misfits. I've grown to love them as if they were mine. I would definitely recommend reading them all.

A fitting and indeed moving end to a series I'd fallen in love with
After the slight misfire of the third 'Bear, Otter & The Kid' novel, I had high hopes that the last hurrah would strike a better balance and send the series off in style - and I'm glad to say that's how things panned out. The shortest of the four novels, it's also the busiest, dividing itself between three eras (past, present and future) as it ties up elements from previous novels, catches us up with where that's led to the characters and then catapults us forward to later times in their lives to see how they're getting on before waving them a fond farewell. That I got a little choked up more than once in the last section of the book ('Future') shows that author TJ Klune has done a phenomenal job of endearing these characters to his readers, so that leaving them behind feels like a real loss, no matter how happy you are for them by story's end. It has been such an immersive experience to see them grow over the series, to the point where you want to insert yourself into the lines on the page to hug them or shake them or (as shallow as it sounds) get in on some of the action with them. In this particular novel I was happy to see narrating duties returned to the central character, Bear, with whose voice the author is most at home, but the balancing act to give all of the main characters from throughout the series a moment in the spotlight one last time is very effectively achieved.I will definitely miss Bear, Otter and the Kid, and their amazing extended family, but am happy to know I can always go back and revisit them any time I like, experiencing their heart-breaking and heart-warming journey all over again. As a series of novels, the books haven't always been perfect, but their flaws - like those of their characters - only make them more believable and relatable. TJ Klune is a fantastic writer who at last seems to be getting the exposure he deserves, so I hope that leads to more people discovering this series and falling in love with it as I did.P.S. Come on HBO/Netflix/whoever, there's *got* to be a successful [mini]-series in the making from these books!
