Space Dandy: Season One [Blu-ray]

What can I say? I'm just a really big fan of Space Dandy. One of the best animes in the multiverse, baby.

Space Dandy is one hell of a guy, baby. I mean just look at that slicked back pompadour style. How could you not know immediately this is gonna be a riot, baby. The cover alone sold me - I couldnt help it - its a show called "Space Dandy" with a cover and main character like that. Its satire (of alot of things including anime tropes like excel world - minus the ear-drum-popping-protagonist haha). I love the 'space cat' (an betelgeusian) and his trust side kick yellow robot dude. Dandy is such a good guy at his heart although he'll never really openly show it - it does remind me of cowboy bebop in the sense its sort of about space-bounty hunters - but funny and what dandy hunts down are unknown alien species so they can be identified. The show is actually very philosphical in a humorous way - every episode has a little lesson you can learn (like Kinos Journey or MuShiShi). They get into all kinds of hijinks and tight spots - but somehow always manage to pull through at the most ridiculous odds (not spoiling anything but if you've seen thhe show - the racing episode LOL - is the epitome of this). Hes a kind of man who "can't's" are not an option, not even a thought or part of this reality - through sheer will power and believing in yourself. Space Dandy's a fantastic anime that stitches together philsophical undertones/serious messages threw a comedy medium - set as a space opera of sorts. I hope there's a season 2.Its rather rare to get an anime comedy series these days, Level E was the last time I remember something really really funny in a unique/innovative way come out in America (well - baka and test was funny, as well as a few others im forgetting but their rather rare amongst the vast anime lexicon we americans have access to) a refreshing break from epic battles and insane surreal plots. Not that Space Dandy wouldnt fit the surreal bannor, it wears its proudly. I hope this trend continues - and we see more comedy series with themed animes from all genres. Aswell as more serious - seinen shows aswell. But thats for another review. Spcace Dandy is always worth a laugh - I watched it twice (one day, then the nexy day - first day I wasnt really paying that much attenion and was sick - next day felt better and couldnt stop laughing). Great show - You owe it to space dandy to watch this anime, baby. hahahaa

"Space Dandy" is the kind of anime that doesn't fall into an easy category. If you're the type of person who equally enjoys the "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books as well as vintage Mad Magazine, you probably fall into the niche demographic that the show is aiming at. This is an episodic series that, to coin a phrase used by one of the lead characters, is "pretty deep in a stupid, rambling way." There's lots of comedy in the early episodes, lots of sudden veers into extreme sentimentality in others, some excellent slapstick action, and some radically different shifts in visual style in some of the more experimental episodes. Throughout, the graphic style is always clean, colorful, pleasing to look at and almost always could pass for full cel animation.This set only contains the first season, which consists of only 13 episodes. Most of the funnier episodes are contained here. It's a pretty fast watch although, given its episodic nature, it can be a little hard to watch more than a couple of shows in a single sitting. The series lasted only one year, but this was probably by design. Personally, I would rather watch a short series that went out on a high note than to watch a series that drags on years past its normal lifespan.Audio is decent. Not many stereo effects are noticeable when listening through headphones, but the soundtrack isn't in mono, either. The music in particular sounds great.If you liked this box set you may enjoy some of the manga adaptation, which uses these episodes as a springboard.

Animation - top notch animation going on here. The aliens, worlds, galaxies, and settings all feel so alive with the lush saturation of colors that are presented to you. Whether its fight scenes that end up dandy bagging an alien that is worth squat or the trio wasting time; you will enjoy the pretty colors and lush scenes.Music - man, that intro song is so freaking catchy. It definitely gets you going and could be a good song for exercising and dancing. Watanabe chose to not have instruments after like the 1970's. Jazzy and classical music with upbeat tunes will definitely present itself here dood.Story - honestly it's completely a random mash up this season, and with awesome vibes that will have going along with the characters. Major feels in episode 5 present, and was probably the best episode out of the bunch here.Price - funimation has it, enough said. Though seriously funimation's collections are very affordable and go look at aniplex; you would shudder the prices that they try to charge for a couple of episodesAll in all - its a great watch, and nothing too ecchi here, which is great because that's been too overly focused in mainstream anime nowadays. It definitely takes me back to older animation nowadays that kept entertained with the story. I highly recommend you try space dandy out. Nothing to lose here, and you can go watch the first few episodes on funimation's website

This show is incredible and with this edition, there's a slot open (where the postcards are stored) for season two when you buy it! Perfect for collectors of physical media! One thing I will say: Nearly EVERYTHING I order from Amazon this year comes in damaged.. It feels like I'm buying used items for full price and I'm really tired of it.. I'm still giving this five stars just because I love the show. This is my second time buying it (my first copy was stolen..) and I guess my personal Dandy curse continues 🤨 but the discs are ok and I'm just grateful to own it. I know that Amazon can't control the shipping because workers handle the boxes without consideration a lot of the time.. It's just frustrating and makes me not want to order much anymore 🙃 Still highly recommend the show and hope that your experience is much better!!!

作品の評価については傑作すぎるので私から申し上げることはございません。　北米版ですので、日本語音声時の強制字幕を心配しましたが、PS3にて日本語再生時には字幕が出ないことを確認しました。　ただし、本放送時に字幕であった部分(ゾンビ回等)はきっちり英語になっています、北米版ですから当たり前なんですが・・・　OPEDのスタッフリストは当然英語なんですが、本編での字幕まで英語になっているのでちょっと残念でした。　収録に関してはBD版は1枚目1話～10話、2枚目に11話～13話といういつもの無理矢理な収録w　なんで均等に入れないんでしょうかねぇ？　さて、シーズン2の発売が今から楽しみです、いつ出るのかな？

the "limited edition" features were not particularly amazing, but the series is far more fun that i was originally willing to give it credit for... gotta say, at first it just looks stupid, but it's actually very enjoyable.
