Outstanding Shears: Suitable Not Only For Hedges & Shrubs, But Also Grass Clipping in Odd Spots
I am a huge fan of Corona's products and this one is no exception. These aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for and it's absolutely worth the price. These are heavy, two-handed shears that can be used to cut foliage, young twigs, and small / soft branches on shrubbery, and also can be used for grass. Although they are marketed as hedge shears, I actually bought them for use with grass and they are outstanding for that purpose. They are good if you want to use larger muscle groups (upper arms and back) and give a rest to your weaker/smaller grip/forearm muscles that you need to use one-handed grass shears. With these shears, I can cover a much larger area in a short period of time. I edged the entire back yard in 10 minutes, whereas with one-handed shears it would take twice that time. It is nearly fast as using power edging tools. They are heavy, which is good and bad. The tool is well-made and slides smoothly when you clip, but it is heavy so you will fatigue a bit, carrying these around. It's a good workout though. I find the heavy weight helps to have greater control when clipping.I haven't owned these long so I can't testify with 100% certainty as to the durability, but they feel well-made, and all but one tool I've ever bought from Corona has lasted pretty much indefinitely. One I have owned for 10 years now! The design of this is typical of the better-made of Corona tools; there are no plastic parts that can break off, only the plastic grips which are not essential to the functioning.I can't recommend these shears enough! I was waffling about buying them and within 5 minutes of getting out into my yard and putting them to use, I know I made a great choice with them.

Straight blade is a must
I love the straight blades on these. I previously had the Fiskar ones, and they were near impossible to sharpen when the blades went dull. Ordered these and they’re 10x better. They do have a little weight to them, but because of that they feel superior in quality to what’s out there.

Not good for twigs
Disappointed in how fast the blades dulled after light usage

Review of Caron Shears
Wonderful tool. Very well made and extremely sharp.I read another person’s review who liked this tool very much, but said the shears were heavy. I agree, they are heavy, but think they will hold up well which was one of several of my requirements. I tried several other shears before settling on these. The others failed within a year or so and the last pair upon my first use.I purchased the small Carona sharpener at the same Time. It’s an amazing little tool which I’ve not needed to use on the new shears yet, but it work very well with other sharp edge tools that needed sharpening.

Sharp
As an elderly gardener I appreciate anything that makes garden tasks easier. Not too heavy and sharp. Makes all my trimming jobs easier. I've trimmed hedges and overgrowth with ease.

A very good shear but large and heavy
I have to poreface this review by saying that we have a ridiculous hedge. I live in the tropics and spend mch of the summer battling overgrowth from the winter rainy season. Most of that time I am in my back yard with a bypass pruner or a hand saw or a power saw. While the back is tougher than the front, because we can get 40 foot weeds with triunks which are an inch and a half or more thick... it is more rewarding because that is where our vegetable garden is, and my daughter and I have been working on a kitchen herb garden as well. My husband usually takes care of the front, where as I said, we have a ridiculous hedge: Java plum which I planted to match what the prior owners had put in not knowing how difficult it would be to maintain. The youjng groeth is 1/4-1/2 thick and before it is a year old it is woody. It also has thorns which are 1-3 inches and also thick. When I commentred on the size of the hede citter my daughter said 'that's good because we have thorns that big'. It is true that you do not want to get too close to our hedge, and if you are trimming it, well, that is what you have to do.I tackled the hedge today, which has been ignored for at least a month. I was surprised by how easy it was to cut througfh th green growth, even when it was 1/2" thick. Over 1/2" and woody I began to have difficulty, but part of that was my treating it like a pruner. Once I got the rhythem down thing were a lot smoother. I will say that it was hard work because of the size and weight, but the blades are very good. Even though it took longer per cut than with the tools I used before, it went faster and looks a lot better. We finally got an even cut from a gnarled and unruly hedge There are still places where I will need to use a say (nmo clipper is going to cut through a 4 inch diameter woody branch) but there are only a few places, and the hedge looks better than it has in the 20+ years we have lived here.I am not altogether surprised. We have a lot of Corona tools. I think the first I bought wwas a folding saw which was so much better than the others we had that I every time I looked for a tool I checked to see if Corona made one. We now have several saws and pruners made by Corona and I have always been happpy with them. This is fart and away the largest, but it also cuts multiple branches, and does it evenly. It is harder work, but worth it.I am sorry, I can not call this light. It is almost the weight of my reciprocating saw, with a big LI battery! but with blades this size you will get that weight. It is a solidly built tool like all the others I have from Corona. I have been using their tools for 10-20 years, and there is a reason I keep coming back.
